Cross-post from the Lindholm/Monahan thread:
Just read an article on Lindholm's Swedish club's website. The article talks a bit about how they will place more of an emphasis on individual training, and then goes on to talk about Lindholm's own training.
"Agility and pace are two things I think that I should improve"
He also talks about improving stamina.
The article then talks about how there have been scouts at almost all of his games this season and how he felt about it. He says that you don't really think about it when you're on the ice.
He also says that he's not thought too much about the draft, but that he probably will think more about it when it gets closer.
He also says that he's going to do another year for Brynäs in the Swedish league before he heads over to the NHL. He says that his goal is to play in the NHL but that he wants to feel ready before he goes over the Atlantic and tries to get a spot.

I could definitely see that. If Carolina passes I only see Philly and New Jersey keeping him in the top 14.

I think it was actually as close to a day or two from the cutoff which is sept. 15, I believe. Anyhow, I have thought about this as well, but I think what makes this murky is that Jankowski played in the NCAA this year rather than most draft comparables who played in the USHL. Had Jankowski played in the USHL as was originally speculated, I think he would have put up some pretty nice numbers and would have positioned himself nicely for a hypothetical 2013 draft.
It is really impossible to say, but I do not think Jankowski had a top ten draft pick type year in Providence. However, he seemed to have a solid first season, putting up good rookie numbers. The attributes that the Flames drafted him on seem evident based on the coaching staff comments and the highlight packages.
If Jankowski played in the USHL, I think he may have dominated that league, imposing his size, and that would have made him a very attractive pick this year. However, he would have likely hit the NCAA and had a similar year he had this year after that. Now he can hit the ground running next year. I am calling a breakout College campaign for Mr. Jankowski this coming year.

Well I'm fine with Jankowski based on where he was picked but a guy with those numbers and having seen him play a few times this year, probably would go 3rd round or so. Very few college freshmen at that size with those numbers have ever gone first or second round. Still thought he should have gone USHL as initially planned. Very few can make the jump from where he was playing right into college and make an impact. Very young and raw. Jury still out of course but again, a freshman putting up those numbers wouldn't go very high in the draft even at that size and upside.

Any chance the flames will trade for any additional picks? possibly some second rounders for Cammy/Gio/Stempniak/Tanguay?

Not sure.
9 picks is a lot though, the most we have had in one draft since it was reduced to 7 rounds. (This will be the ninth seven round draft)
My bet is if they do deal for more picks, they will start adding picks from the 2014 draft.

Jankowski would likely be in the 18-25 range.
This year though is a lot better depth wise. I'd take guys like Horvat Gauthier and Mantha over Radek Faksa from last year and he went 11th. Those three are in the 15-20 range.

Not true at all. Take away a few of their top guys and that's the worst roster in hockey

The Lightning are a funny franchise. They have a knack for getting their hands on superstars, but they can't afford to put together a real NHL roster if they keep them. It's gonna be funny when they have to move Hedman in order to keep both Stamkos and Drouin.

Posted this is in the monahan vs lindholm thread but i'll post it here too.
When we talk about the need for size, and monahan being the bigger player, we need to keep in mind that monahan is only 2 inches taller and they are the same weight @ 195lbs

and at 6’2”, 193 pounds he has the size that Edmonton typically covets.

lindholm is in no way a lightweight or a soft touch.

i have a trade proposal
To Buffalo
STL pick
T.J. Brodie
To Calgary
8h overall pick
Tyler Myers
Buffalo gets out from under the myers contract with 6 yrs remaining @ 5.5M
Myers gets a fresh start which he may welcome at this point
Buffalo gets a 1st back and essentially moves down
Buffalo gets a very promising young d-man who is an RFA and can have his contract negotiated to suit team needs.
The flames get bigger, like waaaay bigger and Myers i believe will rebound to have a nice career.
The flames draft again at 8th allowing them (hopefully) to get both lindholm and monahan
pipedream?

Pegula is something of a vanity owner isn't he... you know one of those guys who cares less about the money and owns the team as a kind of vanity project rich-guy's toy no?
Might not care about getting out from under the Myers contract. Besides which I'd rather like to keep TJ... don't want to fill a hole by creating another one.

More. Myers has not been great of late but given his talent there is no way Buffalo gives up on him yet. I am not sure we could pry Myers out of Bullalo let alone them throw a higher draft pick to us. I like Brodie but I think most GM's would rate Myers quite a bit ahead of him.

what if it's both of our late picks ?
change anything?
it would be essentially be
brodie for myers then the 2 firsts to move up.
in my mind it works because
8th > stl pick and pitt pick
brodie > myers+contract anchor

I figured I would re-post this from the Blues/Kings playoff thread as it is a best case playoff scenario for the Flames drafting.

In an ideal situation for the Flames we would see STL get eliminated immediately and hope for 2 non-division champion conference finals.
For example, if we end up with BOS vs OTT and LAK vs DET for the conference finals then the Blues pick would drop to 20th.

No, not really. Plus, why take away those few guys? That's... part of their roster. You don't just 'take' them away and then try to formulate an argument.
