Ah yes that is true. They have a combined 10% chance though. Don't think we'd be that unlucky.

So basically we want Carolina Edmonton and Nashville to win combined with Chicago beating Calgary and then we want either A) Calgary to win the draft lottery B) One of Tampa/Colorado/Florida to win the draft lottery so we don't move down in the draft.

Sure would be epic. I can only imagine how CBJ, NYR and LAK work out how to share the 6th overall pick.

Did you know Columbus has the NYR and LAK picks from the Nash and Carter trades?

If we pick up Monahan, Rychel and Gauthier, I will be very happy
"Rychel is that gritty power forward type prospect with good bloodlines - his father Warren was a former NHL player - who plays the game with incredible amounts of heart and intensity. His skating is not elite but is effective and he gets to where he needs to be on the ice with good straight-line speed and strong balance. He drives though defenders on route to the net or to a loose puck and plays a take no prisoners style where winning is the only thing. He will push back and get his nose dirty and is willing to stick up for himself and teammates by dropping the mitts if need be."
Gots me all giddy

Flames then proceed to pick five players in round 1.
14th - D - Rasmus Ristolainen
16th - C - Curtis Lazar
22nd - C - JT Compher
25th - C - Frederik Gauthier
30th - D - Samuel Morin

We must pick Lindholm. Those steely grey Swedish eyes, like the Baltic Sea itself on a cloudy winter afternoon, and that still boyish exterior, masking the ever-growing beast within, rumoured to be possessed by the spirit of the great Foppa himself.

Talking to someone close to Mackinnon, and he said that if Florida gets the number one pick (wins the lottery) they are going to take Mackinnon, so Jones will be sitting there for Colorado at three, they need D, not forwards, and then Drouin will be there at 3.

Teams talk to players and coaches and people in the organization all the time before the draft and during the year leading up to it. Panthers are in love with the guy. Send me a private message and i can tell you my source if you'd like. Obviously things can change between now and the end of June but if the draft was today and Fla had no. 1 it would be Mackinnon.

I actually know a guy that was drafted and one of the teams told him that if he made it to them, they were picking him. They were quite clear about it.

So the top 2 draft order will be one of Mackinnon/Jones or Jones/Mackinnon.
Is there any chance Tampa takes Barkov, Nichushkin or Nurse at 4? I think Drouin is the guy we need. Convert him to C.

With the league-owned Phoenix Coyotes missing the playoffs I'd say the odds of a team below us winning the lottery are closer to 90%

I have no doubt a team may have told that to Mackinnon.. but I also have no doubt they told it to a few other players.
There is no way to say with 100% certainty who a team will pick until they actually pick them.

I don't think its easy to convert a guy to C. In fact you see a lot more cases where guys who play centre in junior are converted to the wing - not the other way.
It's one reason why it is so very hard to find centres, if it was as simple was converting skilled wingers to the middle - every team would do it.
