I love the idea of drafting Monahan too. I think it just gives the Flames so much more options up front. He'll be a centre at the NHL level and it will take the pressure of a guy like Jankowski to play the middle when he reaches the NHL.
A 1-2-3 of Monahan, Backlund and Reinhart would be fantastic. Monahan is a true number one guy, Backlund is the prototype two-way 2nd line centre and Reinhart is the 3rd liner you dream of.
I've tried to steer clear of of focusing on one or two guys, to not be one of those posters that gets pissed if their guy isn't taken.. but Monahan is exciting.

Jankowski is YEARS away. He should not be factored into any decisions.

If the Flames pick Monahan, I won't be disappointed, but I won't be as happy as I would've been if we picked Lindholm. I just don't see him being a #1C, but what do I know? Hopefully I eat some crow if the Flames draft him.

If the Flames select Monahan, how likely would it be for him to play for the Flames next season as an 18 year old?

I just don't see Lindholm as being a number 1 Center. He reminds me of Backlund with just a little more physical element. Don't get me wrong but Monahan has size and is NHL ready. Steve Spott Canada says he has NHL hockey IQ already. The guy hasn't even played a pro game yet. That is high praise.

I think he can step in. I wouldn't expect too much from him but I think he can play in the NHL this October.

Can Lindholm play in the NHL next season? I assume he'd go back for another year in Sweden most likely.

The Canadian head coach also had some acclaim for 18-year-old centre Sean Monahan, when the coach remarked, "his hockey sense, in my mind, is at a National Hockey League level right now."
"He has elite hockey sense," Spott said of Monahan. "He is just one of those players who can play in any situation - 5-on-5, 5-on-4, on your [penalty kill]. Sean has that innate ability. He is going to be an elite NHL player. There is no doubt about that."

Then I pray that we get the 5th pick. This is a Center who makes players around him better. We have been needing this for years. The kid is like automatic in the face off dot as well. He has all the attributes every Flame fan as been dreaming about for a Center. Now we finally have that chance so lets not mess it up.

Yeah I really want us to get Monahan, but we must draft before the Oilers because I think they will select him before us.

Just wondering, how many years is YEARS?
Personally I don't see him finishing college, people forget how young he is (month older than Monahan) and he will fill out his frame quickly...2 years max IMO.

Can someone clarify the rules for deciding draft order?
Some are saying that we have the ROW tie-breaker. But I think it's in the wrong direction. We have 19, Carolina 18, Edmonton 15, Nashville 14. So, we need those teams to actually have more points than us to leap us in the standings, correct?
As far as hopes and dreams - I just am hoping we can snag Lindholm or Monahan. But, my fear, if we end up in 7th (which is still quite likely, even though fourth is possible!), that the 'Big 4' plus these two centres are gone.
After the draft lottery, it's gonna be a loooong wait until the draft!

Updating stats from sportsclubstats:
30) 0%
29) 0%
28) 0%
27) 6%
26) 24%
25) 36%
24) 33%
At worst we're drafting 8th, at best 4th (barring winning the lottery), but most likely 6, or 7.
Probably Lindholm/Monahan...

Tried to find this answer online with no avail but does anyone know how our St. Louis pick is decided? Is it by final regular season standings or by playoff finish?

That's my understanding. ROW is not in our favour.
