Flames 1st Round Pick (Penguins pick)
Looks to be some nice Centres ranked where the 1st rounder we got from the Pens will likely land - working off this list: http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=49649
Petan has some outrageous numbers - what do we think of him?
24. Ryan Hartman
25. Ryan Pulock
26. Laurent Dauphin
27. Nicolas Petan
28. Curtis Lazar
29. JT Compher

Petan is just too small. I'd be very disappointed if we picked him.
We already have a 5'9" centre struggling to make the team.

Huge numbers but too small IMO considering our team already lacks size. I'd rather take Pulock or Horvat or Domi instead of Petan if they are available. (Domi is 'small' but he's enough of a tank to make up for it)

My take anyways.

Hall 2nd overall behind Jones. Nugent Hopkins 3rd behind Jones, Mackinnon. Yakupov 4th behind Jones, Mackinnon, Drouin.
Maybe toss a coin between Hall and Mackinnon and another coin toss between Nugent Hopkins and Drouin. I don't get the Yakupov hate. I think he will turn out pretty good for the Oil, unfortunately.

I think MacKinnon will be better than Hall and RNH.
Well, maybe not if he lands in Florida.

Right - didn't catch his size - we have enough mighty mites already.
I like the players coming from the QMJHL - Dauphin or Gauthier if he's still available.

Not sure whether or not he actually is BPA, but are we really going away from the mentality of BPA regardless already? If we need to trade someone later then so be it, but you don't draft based off of need ever. You never know who will bust in your system. Worst comes to worse you end up like Tampa and Conacher and you trade him for a different asset at a later time.
Just listen to Pierre McGuire go off when Carey Price was drafted and think about how much it made sense then and how silly it sounds now.

Jones,
Hall
RNH
Drouin,
Yak/Barkov is a coin flip for me but i prefer both over Lindholm

Just because Petan is a very good CHL player does not mean he is the best prospect available.
To me, Petan is a 2nd/3rd round guy, and I'd be very disappointed if we took him with any of our 3 firsts.

It looks like the Flames are going to be in the 7 spot which should guarantee at least a Monahan, Lindolm, or Nurse.
It would suck however, if a team below the Flames in the draft lottery won and pushed the Flames down a spot. Then it might be a choice between the wild card Nichushkin and the next group. In that case, it might not be bad for them to trade down and pick up another pick as that 9 to 15 group is pretty similar.

No thanks, at the very least one of these three will be there at 8, good enough for me.
Monahan, Lindolm, or Nurse.

Given the chance, I'd pick Nichushkin at 8 all day long

Yeah i'm saying what if those 3 aren't there? Do you then take Nichushkin or do you trade down for more assets?
Is it better to have Nichushkin or is it better to trade the option of drafting him to move down a few spots and pick up a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
Man I hope they don't draft Nichushkin, his name is so hard to type! I probably spelled it wrong in this post.

Just say no to the Russian. This draft is way too deep and important for this team to draft a huge question mark like that. Why pick someone with extra risk when there are a handful of other guys who are are much less of a flight risk, yet probably are within 5-10% of what his ceiling is?
Makes absolutely no sense for the Flames. That first 1st-round pick is one where Id much rather play it safe. Take your flyers with 1 of the other 2 first rounders if need be...but you gotta make sure that 1st pick is solid solid hit.

I have little doubt that Feaster and crew wouldn't take Nichushkin at 8, but I really can't see him available there
