It is hard to decide, I'm sure this will be a super tough decision come draft day. Both would be good, Lindholm is growing on me and I wouldn't be disappointed if we go either on Sunday.

Trade Gio and 22 and/or28 for 7th overall from the Oilers and draft them both.. Hows that for a slice of fried gold..
I voted Lindholm when the poll went up and I wavered somewhat to Monohan but I am back in the Lindholm camp. I think he is our guy.

Clearly Lindholm's penis has equal skills with the puck as his hands.
Lindholm for me.

If that's the case, he should have taken a penalty on that play.
Illegal curve in his dick.

This has me worried, Bouw was not a got interview known to be shy with the camera and people mocked him for it. If the same is with Monahan it will happen too.
I personally would be happy with either Monahan or Lindholm; find myself flipping back and forth.

Bit of a broad question. Sounds like you're basically asking how scouting works and what factors in to that.
Scouts assess players on:
-size/strength
-skating
-puckhandling
-shot
-vision/playmaking/passing
-hockey sense
-defensive play
-offensive play
-competitiveness
-leadership
-consistency
They do that by watching the players. They watch them against older players, against their peers. They try to watch them in different situations to see how they react to adversity. Watch them when their linemates are injured, watch them in the playoffs, etc.
Then from there it is all projection. How much room to develop does the player have? How strong and fast will they be in a few years? How does their skill stack up to NHL calibre players? Are they teachable? Do they have the character to persevere? How much have they improved over the last year? Two years? How much more can they improve?
The basic question scouts try to answer is, "How good will that player be in the NHL in 5 years if they develop properly?" Perhaps a secondary question is, "What role will that player play in the NHL?" Those answers determine a player's upside. MacKinnon could be a superstar 1st line centre in the NHL if he develops, that's his upside.
Don't know if that was the answer you were looking for

Okay The early results are in.
Anyone want to change their vote? or complain that the Canes picked Lindholm or that the Flames didn't tank for Seth Jones?
I was pretty clear in preferring Monahan #6 and Nichushkin #10 over Lindholm #5
Right now the top forwards drafted , outside of Drouin #3 and Horvat #9, are running pretty close to form. It seems pretty clear that Monahan was the best centre available at the 6th spot. I think the Flames were lucky that he fell through to 6. Would have the Flames picked Lindholm or Nichushkin had Monahan been picked in the #5 slot?
The Canes have Lindholm playing on the wing with Jordan Staal and Skinner.
Monahan has had Hudler and Baertschi/Colbourne
Nichushkin has Seguin and Benn (doesn't hurt his numbers)
Mackinnon has had no regular linemates... played the most with Landeskog, ROR and Duschene
Barkov has Brad Boyes and Bergenheim on his wings

Monahan has been playing with Cammy too which is hurting his game a little I think because Cammy has been just not the same since Iggy left and really was the same Cammy when he came back for his 2nd stint. I really wish Baertschi and Monahan could still be playing on the same line right now.

I wanted Lindholm and stated as such, I also felt that either way we were getting a good player.
I still think Lindholm is going to be a beast, but I'm happy with our guy.

Can't wait to judge them in 5-10 years, I think the telling stat will be who is still in the NHL, who is wearing a letter, who has more wins and not just points.

I think Monahan was and will be the better pick between the two of them. I would of loved for him to slip to the oilers at that number 7 pick. Hes the perfect 1b/2a center, has size, can score and will be a good 2 way player.

The 2003 draft there were only 4 forwards that played more than 30 NHL games in their draft year: Eric Staal #2 81 games 31 pts, Horton #3 55 games 22 pts, Zherdev #4 55 games 31 pts, Dustin Brown #13 31 games 5 pts.
Then because of the lock out lost season the rest of them went back to junior for another year.... Drafted - 2 more years of junior and then on to the NHL.
2013 has an early lead on being the best draft ever

Looking at Barkov's stats, Baertschi has the point totals after fewer games played.

I think it's way too early to bump this thread. Going into the draft most people thought Monahan was more NHL ready than Lindholm. If anything Lindholm is ahead of most people's projection by being in the NHL already, even if it is on the wing.

We shouldn't be reviewing these two who both will be great hockey players. But instead looking at the oppertunity to have Olli Maatta vs Mark Jankowski

I remember as soon as I saw a pre draft interview with Monahan he was the player I wanted the flames to pick. To me he has captain written all over him. His dedication and preparation to making the team shows his maturity.
Personally I am biased when there is a flip of the coin I think you always go Canadian over Euro.

I wanted Nichushkin and was disappointed that we didn't get him until we took the slightly worse version of Valeri with Poirier.
It all worked out for the best.

Same here. I was just hoping they weren't going to be stupid and take Nurse.
