I'm heading over to singapore here in a few weeks and planning on getting a new pair of denim while Im there. Any recommendations?
I have a budget of probably less than $200 cdn. I don't know what the prices are like over there... Also all of the threads over @ superfuture are too long for me to start reading.
thanks.

wow i jealous. I'd love to go over to HK or Japan and do some jean shopping there, it'd be unreal. And yeah if your there best thing to do is try some jeans on. It's more when your ordering stuff over the net that recomendations help.

I actually live in Vancouver. There are quite a few more options here in terms of clothes stores. Plus the Asian population is big enough that the demand for high end and Japanese jeans is high enough that they are actually stocked in a few stores here.

yeah, I was more hoping for brands to check out that are over there. I have never, and don't really plan to buy any clothing on the internet. You really need to try things on before buying them (or atleast I feel like I do).

How is this thread any different than ATR's thread about Jersey quality from NHL.com? Maybe that's just me.

Nothing wrong with talking about quality of things.
But when the thread starts discussing the designer labels and ways of washing to get the best creases, then it just seems to be straying further into the fashion realm than I would have expected in a thread about jeans.
And I read this thread because I need a few new pairs of jean and wondered where to get a good quality pair for a decent price. I was a shocked at some of the prices being mentioned. I'm wondering if any of these jeans are worth $200+ or if they are charging lots of money for the label and I could get an equivalent pair for a much cheaper price?
And there is a world of difference talking about an expensive jersey that, when received, appears to be very different than what you thought was being purchased; and a thread about $200 jeans.

I guess it depends if you feel the 'labels' on a jersey are worth the premium you pay for them. What are 'authentics' going for nowadays anyways?

If i could find a comparable pair for less than the ~$250 i pay i would buy them!
For me it has nothing to do with the name/brand on the jeans, it is about the fit, the look, etc.
I get sooo many compliments on my jeans it is crazy and i am sure that those that do the same here in this thread would out-number in compliments those that do not spend the money to get the best jeans and looks they can. Looking good and with-it without going over the top is easily 50% of the battle for success out there in the real world IMO.
I guess in certain industries it is less important than others, but (for example) being able to pull off a great Friday look while other co-workers use it as an excuse to 'take a day off' is a big deal when it comes to who jumps out in superiors minds as 'with it'. Not to mention the difference in dealing with women....
And i get a LOT of wear out of those expensive jeans. If i wear them 200 times they are only a a bit more per wear over cheap jeans - and i can easily justify an extra $0.85 in value out of each time i wear them when standing next to someone with cheap jeans. ($80 v. $250 > over 200 wears > $0.40 v. $1.25) Even though in relative terms they are much more (more than double obviously), in absolute terms of $/wear it is not that bad IMHO.
I had a pair of cheap Jack&Jills from a shop on 17th Ave once (Hot Gossip or something?) that were alright though?? But they were more of a Sunday-around-the-house jean....

Well, I'm not allowed to wear jeans in my office outside of Stampede week.
If I got twice the wear out of a pair of jeans I would probably be willing to pay twice the price, but jeans aren't really a fashion item for me, they are a comfortable pair of pants that I can do yardwork in or just wear around casually going out for beer with friends.
My recent pairs have been very cheap, and I haven't gotten the wear out of them I would like. I want to buy a better pair, but I can't picture a scenario where I would pay what some folks on here have paid. Perhaps if I had a job where making an impression on casual Fridays would matter, but my casual Fridays mean I don't need to wear a tie (and none of my bosses even come into the office on Fridays).

I just put an extra premium on looking well put-together in my own time (like a lot of members, apparently!?). On a Saturday afternoon or night, or even a Wednesday evening at the mall, i want to be wearing a nice pair of jeans, great pair of shoes, nice looking shirt and nice blazer. If i run into anyone i want to convey the type of image of someone that is with-it, confident, etc. For networking, respect, etc. People treat me totally different (sadly?) when i am like that then when i wear an old t-shirt and old pair of jeans....
Not to say casual looks aren't important too, and i have those as well, but the thought behind it is the same. (Without trying to be obsessively stylish or anything. Even a really nice white dress shirt or cool black t-shirt with jeans and good shoes for example).
Saving a few dollars on cheap shoes or jeans is more visible than a lot of people who don't do it sometimes realize, i think.... ??

I am not doubting what you say but in your industry people really get promoted based on what jeans they wear on casual Friday?
If these jeans seem to look better and make everyone here fell better than I am not going to say anything about them getting them but having seen them on the internet I have to say I don't understand how they look any better or all that different for jeans selling for $80-100.
I get plenty of wear out of my $80 dollar jeans, certainly close enough to negate the $120+ difference.

How do you get 200 wears out of a pair of jeans?
200 wears would be wearing a single pair 5 days a week for an entire year.
I guess you gotta break-in your raw denim.

Your kidding yourself if you think fashion doesn't dicatate a lot more than jeans in our lives. Why do people need the newest IPOD, the newest jerseys, this year's model of cars, etc....
At leats a good pair of jeans I wear all the time. Yes there is a major difference between an $80 pair and a $200 pair. You cannot see a brand name or label on any of my jeans (unless you were looking under my belt), so that is not what I am payign for.

Some people appreciate fine things in general and some people dont at all. (Some people would tell you that BMW and Honda Civic are both nice cars and wouldnt understand why someone would want to pay 2X or 3X the prices for the BMW).
Some people appreciate certian fine things while others appreciate different fine things. (Someone would spend thousands of dollars on cables for their stereo but wouldnt understand why someone would pay $500 for a pair of jeans.)
Then theres people who dont appreciate anything and get more satisfaction from paying the lowest price possible. (Theres people out there who would think paying $80 for jeans is crazy and are perfectly content with their $20 pair from Wallmart and would argue that the $20 jeans fit as good if not better than your expensive jeans.)

I can understand the difference between a Civic and a BMW. Even a pair of $80 to $20. What I can't see is the difference between those $100 and the $200 pair, but that just may be the limit of "fashion understanding."
I guess I just don't see how those jeans are better or look better, again if others do and it makes them feel good to buy/wear the $200 pair more power to them.

Well, in deference to the people in this thread, most people posting are just trying to look good.
Those guys look like they all had trick cigars blow up in their faces.
