Anyone know if there is an app for setting something like that up?
Better yet, am I just ######ed, and is it possible to just set the phone up that way?

I'd say you're a little screwed. Maybe there's something available if you jailbreak it, but notifications are one of the things the iPhone doesn't do well. iOS 5 (next month most likely) will make notifications much better to deal with, but I'm not sure that will bring the customization you're looking for.

Damn! That's the only problem I have with my iPhone.
I really loved that about my blackberry, and I can't believe Apple is so far behind on such a simple but incredibly useful feature.

This is why being a mobile game developer is frustrating. People only want to spend a $1 on a game they'll probably play for hours but will spend $4-6 on a specialty coffee that's gone in 30 minutes and you can't redrink in a week/month/year from now.

I'm confused. This is the ways things are because developers set their apps to those prices, which is now the "norm". Are you a consequence of your own success? Rock bottom pricing gave the app store life, but also set its standards to what we see now. This is definitely inflating though, and stuff like FF Tactics still sells at $16.
I'm not a cheapskate. I buy games for consoles at full price. I've bought apps for my iPhone that are expensive (Beejive - $10, DoDonPachi Resurrection $12, Game Dev Story $5, etc.), but if I get more playtime out of Tiny Wings then Infinity Blade, then I'm reluctant to drop larger amounts of cash on apps.
(Also, I don't buy Starbucks, I skip on 3D Movies, and an iPad is redundant to me so I won't buy one. )

There's an app for that.
Tells you every free app that is available everyday. Don't remember what it is called, but it had enough advertisements I decided to uninstall a while ago.

My bad. That should have been EA's Free App of the Day. That's what EA called this deal when I got their tweet.
One feed I do follow is @AppStoreSales and they tweet a ton of apps that are either heavily discounted or free. Most of them are apps I am not too interested in but there are always a few gems in there.

the app itself really sucks but if you allow it to push to your device you will get a message of the new apps and then just go get them. I find there is about 1 per week that is worth while.
