OK. They’re just appealing their sentences. They don’t have much to lose - the Crown won’t cross-appeal for a bigger sentence after already staying they were satisfied.
I suspect it’s a waste of time though. It’s not an unusually high sentence or anything.
Thanks for your continuing answers to some very difficult questions and your attempt to bring some clarity to the many issues surrounding those facts.
Sad to keep bumping this (and maybe wrong thread). HockeyCanada should just be burnt to the ground and started over at this point.
Coach does bad things, HockeyCanada gives him a tiny suspension, but keeps the details quiet. Scumbag is hired again but they don't know his past because HockeyCanada covered it up.
People will certainly listen to what Makar has to say.
Wonder if it helps or hurts his legacy.
He's consistently said not only was he not involved, he wasn't there.
Simplifying things you've got:
- Guys who were there and directly involved (allegedly). These are the defendents
- Guys who were there, but didn't participate, but knew about it.
- Guys who were there, but didn't know what was going on
- Guys who were at the bar but not at the hotel
- Guys who were neither at the bar or at the hotel

I think this is not quite right, as IIRC there are a few (3?) who were there and did participate (ie entered the room with the express purpose of being involved in what happened), but claim to not actually perform any acts on/with the victim. That's still participation.
These guys are going to be the key and, seeing as theyre not charged, have probably made a deal to out the 5 who did the physical assaulting. IMO, they are just as scummy as the others. At one point someone asked them "Hey, bro ____sy's got some chick in his hotel let's all go surprise gang bang her." and they said "Okay." And then watched it happen. F*** all these guys and HockeyCanada too.

There is probably a huge spectrum of possibilities regarding who knew what both at the time and after the fact, what people thought they witnessed, how they interpreted the information, and so on.
I recall reading that although only 5 players were charged, there were 2 others that were considered for charges but didn't meet the threshold, so it's possible that even if a couple of weren't charged, they don't come out looking good either.

Go watch a show called Dr. Death. Its a docu-drama about a Surgeon in the US.
Coles notes: Guy was a chest thumping buffoon who very seriously hurt people by pretending to be any good.
Setting that aside though, whenever he was 'let go' from a Hospital he always got a glowing letter of recommendation and all of his mistakes were swept under the rug because no one wanted to 'cause waves' and/or potentially be sued.
So when he goes to the next Hospital for a job you have a charming, charismatic Doctor with a seemingly excellent education and reputation armed with impressive letters of recommendation....who is actually completely useless, but they hire him and he hurts more people! Who could see this entirely predictable scenario playing out in this clearly most obvious manner??
I dont get covering for people like that. Same with the Chicago scenario.
"The Video Coach is molesting players!"
"Huh. Is that so? Well. Call the Cops and keep him in the building until they get here. Then put out an Ad for a new Video Coach."
"But..."
"Nope. No 'buts.' No wiggle room here. Call the Cops."

Crown attorney Heather Donkers addressed the jury of 11 women and 3 men, making details behind the criminal allegations against five former members of Canada's 2018 world junior team public for the first time.
Donkers alleged Michael McLeod and Alex Formenton both had vaginal sex with E.M. without her consent.
Donkers also alleged that McLeod, Carter Hart, and Dillon Dubé obtained oral sex without consent, that Dubé slapped E.M.'s naked buttocks without consent, and that without her consent, Foote did the “splits” over E.M.'s face while she lay on the ground, “grazing his genitals over her face.”
The alleged sexual assaults took place in Room 209 at the Delta hotel in London, Ont. in June 2018.
Following Donkers's opening statement, London police detective Tiffany Waque began to testify before a lunch break.

*Told his female players he would enter their dressing room so long as they all were wearing at least sport bras, even if that made some of them uncomfortable.
Unacceptable. Should be the end of the list.
*Told players in early October 2022 that he wouldn’t speak with their parents because they were “whiny f--king pricks.”
Mostly true.
*Suggested to players that one of their teammates had left a practice early probably because she was going to engage in a sexual act with her boyfriend.
Unacceptable. Should also be end of list.
*Used an “Indian accent” when calling the name of a player of South Asian descent, commented that a player was “hot,” and described another player as being of low intelligence.
End of list, end of list, probably true?
*Tried to “photobomb” a picture being taken of a player and her father by pulling down his pants and “showing his butt.”
Hilarious attempt, poor execution.
*Regularly used profanity with and berated his 16- to 18-year-old players.
Depends. Were they backchecking?
