This request for trade still shows that he wants to keep making the big money, but only where he wants. If the issue is that grave with his family then what is the difference of an extra few hours on the plane playing where he is under contract or literally giving up the job that is causing the distance concerns to be with his family. Again as I said, it was my opinion and a generation ago, yes the job did come first, as it is what puts a roof over your head and food on the table.

A few hours is a big difference when you play every other night and live in long Island because it literally means you can't make it often. Being a short flight away means you can visit in between games

Fair, but 41 games are on the road, so there is no guarantees on location for half the season either. Anyway maybe a leave of absence could be looked at. This is far enough into the process now that he will likely be traded anyway. Now we have to wait to see where and when.

The expression sounds stupid because nearly everybody gets it wrong.

The original form of the expression is, ‘You can't eat your cake and have it.’ Once you've eaten your cake, you don't have a cake anymore. It's about the futility of trying to have an either/or choice both ways.

If people would stop and think before opening their cakeholes (either to talk or to eat), they would see that this is the case. The saying makes sense that way round, and doesn't make any sense the other way; but many people are so used to spouting cliches without thinking that they keep the wrong version in circulation from sheer force of habit.
