It is if Russell doesn't play 50% of the games in the first two rounds.

Not if Russell played less than half the Stars games in rounds 1 and 2

- Leafs win the lottery and don't stray from the consensus.
- Canes move up to 2nd slot
- CBJ nabs 3rd position
The latter two end up with Flying Finns.
Flames select 4th and nab Tkachuk.
Find out how it all shakes down, March Madness style....

This mock originally, for simplicity, kept the 1st rnder with the Stars; it's just update with who the Flames might pick should the pick transfer to them.

Why Libor? Think Flames would go for one of the big forwards like Thompson

Super solid dman.
I agree and mentioned Flames would be very interested in Thompson and/or Tufte to mention just two, with Brett Howden likely in the mix as well.
(There's also the Burkie factor as well; ie liking the bigger forwards, but not sure how much influence he'll have in the process)

Dante Salituro is another Mangiapane type guy that I was somewhat surprised did not get picked in the 6th or 7th last year.

Falkovsky might be the most interesting guy. Big, mobile, star of the Belarusian WJC team.

A couple of refrigerators. You can pencil them in with our late round picks.

Someone is going to take Falkovsky much earlier than that, and I hope it's us.

Falkovsky is likely going to be a candidate for either Dallas or Florida's 2nd or the Flames 3rd.
Not sure if he makes it past 40 overall actually. Could possibly see a team take him with a late first potentially.

Falkovsky looks like a solid second round pick. That amount of offensive from a defenseman that size is actually quite unusual.
I'm not a huge fan of drafting huge players though. As far as I know, Kurtis Foster (2000) and Stu Grimson (1985) are the only two NHLers over 6'4 that were drafted by the Flames in franchise history. They're both 6'5. Foster played 400 games, and Grimson's career totalled 39 points.
I have to admit, I am kind of tired of using seconds, thirds, etc. on large players that don't seem to be develop very well.

He's already 19 though. Was on the radar last year but passed over because he didn't jump to the CHL until this season. Late 2nd early 3rd to a team that likes him. Late first for a 19 year old would be crazy.

I don't know anything about this guy, but in regards to that last sentence, I believe Pearson was 19 when drafted with a late 1st.

I would be wary of drafting a 96er with an early pick unless they are dominating junior. That extra year or 18 months or whatever really matters at that age

It's looking extremely unlikely the Flames pick worse than 7th overall... There seems to exist a consensus that there are at least 7 strong players at the top of the draft, so that's a relief.
