If the Flames get the stars first rounder, I hope they can take Stanley with it. The kid is a beast and doesn't look like a Kanzig kind of guy who only has his size. I'd love for the Flames to have a big mean physical defender who can only fight in the system

I'm not sure of the rules. If Jost is tearing up the BCHL, can't he be signed by a WHL team? Shouldn't he be playing at a higher level?
The CHL (WHL/OHL/QMJHL) is considered a "professional" league by the NCAA, where only "amateurs" are given the opportunity to play. So signing with a WHL team means losing your NCAA eligibility. Canadian kids like Jost, and in the past Jaden Schwartz and Jonathan Toews who want to play in college can't sign CHL contracts. On the other hand Americans who want to play in college can play in the USHL before being drafted, which is not considered a "professional" league even though the actual level of play is considered closer to Major Junior (Tier I) than it is to Junior A (Tier II).

I honestly think if the Flames get the Stars 1st it goes towards an upgrade either in goal or towards a forward.
I agree. Especially since this draft has a considerable drop off after the top 20 from what I've heard. It would be nice to get that first round pick though cause it's perceived value could be much higher than its actual value. If the flames can't trade up to get a higher pick in the draft using that late first than I would prefer them use it on improving the goaltending/forward group for next season.

Laine is leading the playoffs in shots. 30 more than the next guy. I want Matthews, I really do, but the thought of Laine on the Flames' PP in the future is also very exciting to think about.

I'd focus your sites down the draft list a bit. The odds of us moving up to the top two picks are pretty slim. I'm sure you'd like a Ferrari, but they aren't available to you at your price range. Aim for something a little more realistic and be happy if that comes to fruition.

Oh, for sure. I'm just hopeful that Calgary can get into the top 2. I'm pretty much resigned to a 6 or 7 pick this year though.
Lots of talk about Jost and Fabbro... don't these two want to go play college - would it be in our best interest to pick someone who will not be playing their first year of college next year? Maybe their plans will change being drafted so high but this is why they stuck to the bchl isn't it?
8 more days until the crushing disappointment is official
Lol! I always try to be an optimist in whatever I do because my nature is to be the opposite. However, I've already grieved and accepted the Oilers getting first pick

Maybe this time will be different? Maybe for once luck will go the Flames' way.
But probably not.
We certainly are due.

I think they will be playing college next year, which might be the best place for them (I generally like the CHL, but US college is a great development league). I think all it means is that they won't likely make the NHL next year, which should be the expectation anyway.
I assume the buzz is because the knock against them was the quality of competition. With them playing so well against top notch U18s, they likely see a bump in their rankings. I am starting to think Jost could go top 8 now.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Don't paint me pictures of unicorns Jiri ... DON'T YOU DO IT.
Although, even when the Flames "got the shaft" we still got Monahan and Bennett. So who knows. I just think it would be neat to know what it feels like to draft up there ... just once.
