I cant believe I am saying this, but thumbs up to Quebec law on this one. Hopefully it stands up all the way to the SCC.

She gets 35k a month for the kids and wants 56k a month for herself? She can go suck it as far as I'm concerned. Nobody is entitled to maintain a rich lifestyle.

As someone that has a personal stake in this -- I live in Quebec and was common law for 6 years -- I really hope the law holds up. The whole point of staying common law was to avoid the legal obligations of marriage.

Just a question, I see where she is going with this. Are women in Quebec knowledgeable in the fact of a breakup there is no splitting of the assets, whats his is his and whats hers is hers?

^^Probably not. It took me 20 years to discover that I didn't have a birth certificate because I was born in PQ.

Quebec law is bizarre but that's one of the concessions we made after the French grew tired of getting their asses handed to them by the Brits and put their focus on Guadaloupe.

Civil law in Quebec is still changing so hopefully this court case will bring it closer to common law for the men/women in living in sin in Quebec.

Outside of Quebec, there are obligations - resulting and constructive trusts.

In Alberta we have AIPs - Adult Interdependent Partners.
