If you had paid any attention to him, at all during his time here you would see that even if he never scored on a breakaway that he did about everything else right. The only people more delusional than us Byron supporters are the ones that thought Byron was only good for not scoring on breakaways as a 4th line player. Ive never seen CP so obsessed with a 4th liner not being able to score goals than the Byron era

If the hockey gods have any mercy they will permit the Flames to have a good beat down on the Oil tomorrow night. A good Oil thumping would help mitigate a bit of the frustration that has been this season so far.

Sportsnet posted a stat that in my opinion says an awful lot. Team save percentage when 5 on 5. The Flames are 30th in the league with an abysmal .870 average. That is simply unnacceptable.

For me, Treliving has got to let this play out. Let Hartley fiddle with the lines to see who sinks or swims, wait for the injured guys to come back. See if either of the 3 keepers can get going. See what options emerge on the bottom 6. If we pick up, great. If not, then so be it. Get rid of the trade bait and see what options emerge at the deadline. Then hit the 2016 draft hard.
What I don't want us to do is make any silly decisions like trade away future prospects or picks for quick fixes. That would be the wrong decision in the long term. Also, Hartley deserves to, at the very least, see the season out. He's earned as much.
Let the chips fall where they may for me. Don't sack Hartley, don't trade in help and don't trade away prospects or picks. These next few months will be painful, but we know we've got a good forward and d-core to work around. The rest of the roster is still way up in the air at the moment, far too many unanswered questions to make silly decisions now. Let things play out I say.

Feels like the late 90s, looks like the late 90s.
One star, a couple other good players, a couple others with some potential, and way too many bottom pairing/4th line guys. And of course, utterly putrid goaltending.
I'm beginning to wrap my head around this, I think. The Flames are looking like an 82 point team that overachieved by 15 points last year. This year, I predict they will underachieve by 15 points and tie the franchise record for fewest points in a season. As lucky as we were last year, we are clearly just as unlucky this year. We're not as bad as it seems, but we're not as good as last season suggested either.
The season's over, it's done... hopefully we can all mostly see that now. There will be mass hysteria and firings to sate the masses. Players will be traded. Both the Canucks and Oilers will miss the playoffs as well.
I think I've come to grips with all this, it's like I'm in the 7th stage of grief or something. One poster put it best. It was a tragedy, it's now a comedy. So let's laugh. Or is there nothing left but the crying?
Growth and regression, the tale of two seasons. There is no linear path to excellence, the best is yet to come. We flew too close to the sun, our wings have melted. We'll grow new ones. Eventually.
No need to lose our shiat over this.
For the record, I think this, right now, is rock bottom. Rather, tomorrow might be. They will get better, but this just isn't their year. They'll pick up some W's at some point but it is far too late to save the season. At this point I'm just hoping all the players make it through the season alive, someone has clearly put some kind of hex on them.
So drink up, and enjoy the dark ride of despondency. We'll laugh about it in a few years when the Flames are winning the cup. Or we'll cry about it when we get bumped from the #1 pick by the Oilers.
Pro sports is a cruel mistress.

Yeah we are sucking ass, but look at the standings. The Stanley Cup is years away but the Pacific division is god awful. We're only 6 points out of the playoffs playing like complete idiots, it's probable we stumble into the playoffs and then get annihilated in the first round. We keep on sucking but the Pacific is just so terrible we're gonna have a real tough time missing the playoffs. Not that it matters, 4 extra games on a miserable 82 game season will be little solace. Until we get a legitimate #1 goalie we aren't a contender.

So ridiculous that I'm assuming they're being sarcastic. If they're not, I don't want to know. I need the world to make sense right now.

If we need a goalie, Cam Ward and Scrivens maybe options. Are they any better than what we have?

I don't care that he didn't score on breakaways. As much as people are obsessed with that, there is another sub group that seems to think him being given away matters at all

As soon as I saw that it was Paul Byron on that breakaway I knew he was going to score. It was pretty much inevitable.

Cam Ward is a better goalie. Putting up okay numbers on a worse team.

I think we have to play this out, no problem with giving some farm team guys some experience. I've been away from CP awhile but looks like things haven't changed- jump on the hater bandwagon against X player. Russell and Hamilton seem to be getting the brunt of it. Hamilton- 22 years old, on a new team, adjusting. Guys calling him bouwmeester part 2? Come on, seriously. Give the guy some time. And Russell? You want to talk about the identity of the team last year? Hardworking, tough as nails.... Everybody was on his jock last year and now are all over him for a rough patch? Let's not be fairweather fans guys...
