Bad goals against are so deflating. I don't even really care about whether or not the Flames have big point totals this year, but I do want them to be fun to watch again and that game had lots of fun in it until the bad goals came.
There's no shame in losing to a team like the Habs, but the way it happened just left a bad taste that lingers. It takes much of the pleasure out of watching a fun, creative young team.
Thank goodness for Johnny. At least he never fails to bring the magic.

How do you figure? I doubt there's one statistical category where the Flames are better than the Hurricanes so far this year.

Hamilton- 22 years old, on a new team, adjusting. Guys calling him bouwmeester part 2? Come on, seriously. Give the guy some time. And Russell? You want to talk about the identity of the team last year? Hardworking, tough as nails.... Everybody was on his jock last year and now are all over him for a rough patch? Let's not be fairweather fans guys...

Russel is also the identity of the team this year. Piss poor defensively

Last year, players were playing for jobs. This season, it has started as pretty much a "I earned this last season" mentality. Time for reality to set in for some of these boys.

Wouldn't worry as he's very calculated. He could take a peripheral part and move that for something equally bad and hope that it gives a jolt into the room. Think guys like:
Raymond
Bollig
Smid
Jones
There are other players in the same boat as these guys with limited/no trade value. But doing nothing isn't an option. Chemistry is bad so change the chemistry. Following names have been in the rumor mill and probably could swap our guys for them. Just a cursory glance but names like:
Bryan bickell
jay Harrison
Maxim talbot
Matt Irwin
Andrew ference
Nikita Nikitin
Niklas Backstrom (would he look good in g?)
Tanner Glass
Colin Greening
Luke schenn
Vinny lecavalier
Rj umberger
Kevin Poulin (just cleared waivers in Tb)
Ryane Clowe (if we want to pull a Leafs and buy additional cap space)
Obviously some options are more attractive/realistic than others but some of these guys would be super motivated to play on a regular basis and show their former teams they were wrong.
Again, don't touch the core or prospects/picks but change the periphery up to see if it will jolt the team. Stand a better chance of going in the right direction vs doing nothing and let this team play out of it. Can't see that happening.

This team is unwatchable. It physically hurts my eyes.
I have no idea what the problem or solution is, and I am scared nobody else does.

The game ended 6-2 and the third period was atrocious.
But let's be realistic here, the Flames were the better team BY FAR until the 4-2 goal when they folded. It's tough to get motivated to play when your goalie lets in his first two shots of the period and 3 of the first 5 shots. Gaudreau and Bennett looked awesome. I think Hamilton is finally starting to come around. Monahan played good. I don't think Giordano was as bad as some of you thought he was. This is the second straight game our goalies have allowed 4 goals on their first 18 shots. It's a joke. There is absolutely no one else to blame in my mind. The weak (and in tonight's case, WEAK) goals are so deflating.
The first few games this year was a team effort. Now it looks as though everyone except our goalies have turned the corner.
Also, to any season ticket holders on here, please never sell your tickets to Habs fans ever again. I don't care how much they're willing to pay for them, they are the most annoying people on the planet outside of Oiler and Canuck fans.

I really don't know what to expect from this team any longer. After tonight, they are a blank canvas for me.
Just going to watch them and cheer them on like I always do. They surprised me positively last year. They are surprising me negatively this year. I will just enjoy watching them period. If they end up doing very poorly, well, at least they draft high. It is a rebuild after all. If they turn the season around, and find a way to squeak into the playoffs, even better.
Still enough storylines on this team to make me happy as a fan.
You get to watch Gaudreau just continually evolve into such a special player, and it really is such a treat to watch him play.
I have to admit, I was starting to think: "Maybe Bennett doesn't really have that elite-level capability in him". The past few games, it has also been a treat to watch him. His playmaking and vision have taken a big step forward. Guess he just needed to play with another skilled player to really get him going.
Think this is just part of the evolution of the team. We were all spoiled last year. We only had to really stomach a half-season of terribleness (lockout year), followed by a lower finish the year after, but one that was somehow so very competitive at the same time. This year? Well, thus far it has been without a doubt the absolute worst. You have to figure if your favorite team is entering a rebuild, there will probably be at least one horrid year us fans have to endure. Maybe this is it. Maybe they turn it around and we skip that horrid year. Guess it is to be determined.
Either way, I just look at this team for what it is - some really nice pieces, but a rebuilding team first and foremost. Whatever happens, happens. Won't cheer for losses - just like the last couple of years when I thought we would be in the MacKinnon lottery, or the Bennett/Ekblad/Reinhart lottery, or the McDavid lottery. If we are in the Mathews lottery, so be it.
Disheartening to see the team performing like this, but at least there still are moments of pure joy watching some of the players developing. Reason enough for me to watch every game.
Just please, show up for every Edmonton and Vancouver game from now on. That is all I ask as a fan.
