Texas Rangers want a new stadium. 1 billion dollar price tag.

Current stadium was built in 1994

They want a retractable roof. Seems legit.

You know what is sad when thinking about home? City portion capped at 500 mill (50%), with the Texans paying for the rest.

What is Calgary's protection against cost overruns in the CalgaryNEXT project again?

It's actually the opposite. Rangers attendance is lower in mid summer because of the heat. Arlington seems to be all in on this. There is a half-percent sales tax to pay for this, switched after the Cowboys stadium is paid off. I have no clue how Arlington voters will allow this after building the Cowboys a massive, expensive stadium, and the current stadium is 20 years old.

Drake just passed over Calgary and went to Edmonton for concerts, Calagry really needs a new stadium.

Getting shot in that show was the closest he ever came to being gangster.

With Darryl Katz turning into a commercial land development and management baron in Calgary and Edmonton, wouldn't it be funny if his company ends up building and managing the next Flames arena?

The only way that happens is if he can bend Calgary's city council over like he did Edmonton's. Cant wait to see what happens when he threatens to move the oilers from Edmonton if he doesn't get a new arena in Calgary.

Sounds like the Fieldhouse group is going to focus on the original Foothills plan:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...port-1.3598955

Quote:
Zaran said CalgaryNext helped raise awareness and support for a fieldhouse in Calgary but, given the hurdles the project faces, his organization is advocating a return to its earlier vision of building a fieldhouse at Foothills Athletic Park.

"Is it finding federal funding — potentially infrastructure funding — where you get a receptive ear?" Zaran said.

"Is it someone like Own The Podium that wants a regional centre of excellence? Is it one or two local philanthropists that are excited about being part of a facility that is a legacy for Calgary?"
