I would like to see how much of that is the land remediation.

If a big part of the increased cost is land remediation then the City looks just as bad for letting that piece of land just sit there contaminated and getting worse.

That plus the fact that the Flames proposal likely didn't include the cost of infrastructure changes and that likely makes up the majority of the difference.

Honestly with how poorly Ken King has managed this new arena project he probably deserves to be looking for a new place of employment.

Looks like Ken King took his play out of the NDP playbook

Remediation is the province's fault actually.

I don't know if it includes any of the land remediation. That report is supposed to be presented on the 25th of this month I believe.

Has it been stated how much the land cleanup would cost? curious to hear about that regardless of the stadium plans.

That would've been my rough guess of total costs including infrastructure (possible bow trail/crowchild fix) and remediation. Will be interesting to see what the individual components come in at.

I have, it's an absolute #### show.

The Saddledome definitely needs to go. But hopefully it's not CalgaryNext replacing it

You can read all of the city's reports in the City Council agenda for next Monday's meeting.

A few tidbits I've seen so far:

- The CRL is not capable of providing enough money to fund this project.

- Remediation of the site alone expected to take 6-10 years. "There is no potential for construction of a CalgaryNEXT facility to begin on the west village site before 2022 and possibly as late as 2026."

- CIty estimates $166 million in transportation infrastructure would be required. $56 million for utility infrastructure. $105 million for additional community revitalization work. $85-140 million for environmental remediation. Additional land purchase (by city) would be $80 million. $371- $390 million in financing charges.

- CSEC's proposal stated that both sides of the facility would not be used at the same time (wouldn't have full feildhouse and arena at the same time) - this causes infrastructure issues

- Appears to be some concern by Calgary's amateur sport organizations about the availability of the feildhouse/adequate parking, etc. Seems like the concept is liked, but needs more thought put into it before they know whether it would work well.

That is what will kill CalgaryNEXT, I always figured the dollars would get sorted out, but I don't think that timeline will work for anyone involved (IE: Olympic Bid).

Bring on Plan B... and good luck to the city/province on cleaning up that site.

I suspect that none of that infrastructure cost includes a bow trail realignment as that project is pegged at like a billion dollars alone.

Oh boy, I can't wait for another "Ken King Update Video". That aside, I'm excited to see what plans East Village and Stampede Grounds come up with now, if they plan on building an arena of stadium with the master plan.

The city's reports say that the city financing the "ticket tax" would cost the city $84 million.

"Administration has come to the conclusion that CalgaryNEXT is not feasible in its present form or location. It is recommended that CSEC be given an opportunity to respond to this report and that The City and CSEC work together to investigate potential locations on or near Stampede Park for an innovative new arena/event centre that benefits Calgarians. It is also recommended that Council reconfirm the Foothills Athletic Park as the preferred location for The City of Calgary fieldhouse project, and that work continue with respect to addressing the contamination issues in West Village. "

Doesn't it make sense to clean up that area ASAP though? It's only going to get more expensive as the years go on, it's pretty embarassing that a city of our stature has a toxic dump within it's inner core. Maybe get some infrastructure/job creation dollars from Notley or Trudeau.

We all knew this was going to be expensive, but putting an exact dollar amount on it's not going to make it go away...

If I wanted to do similar at Arsenal or Wembley, I'd have to leave my seat a couple of minutes before half-time.

Also, once if figured out where the washrooms were up on PL it was much quicker than down on the concourse.

I really like the dome and am very doubtful as to whether the benefits of a new stadium are worth the cost at this point.

The easiest, cheapest way to get this done would just be to pick an edge of the city serviced by the C-Train and build a huge arena with a huge parking lot. Even if you have to extend the C-Train line you're still saving money and you've expanded public transit. Trying to shoehorn a new arena into the middle of a developed city is not easy and not easy is not cheap. Build me a nice arena that can be accessed by C-Train and I don't really care where you put it.

The city says a full modernization of McMahon would cost $69 to $89 million.

I've done similar cleanups, and while it's not as bad as people would think, even if demo's started tomorrow and cleanup started right after there's no way ground breaks on actual arena construction for years. I'd hope we get a new arena before 2025.

Even if the money magically dropped out of the sky, this proposal still sucks
