They won't play the moving game. They are pretty entrenched in this community.

Everyone plays the moving game when they reach prolonged resistance.
I respect the guy a ton, but I wouldn't put it past Edwards to use that strategy.

The guy who moved to London to avoid taxes won't play the moving game to avoid spending hundreds of millions on an arena?

Yeah it's a tactic that can be effective too, especially if they have a legitimate market to go to. But that's the problem, there are pretty much none of those. So they may play the moving card, but I'd hope people would see it for the empty threat it would be.

That's funny... but they'll just use the retread cities instead (Atlanta, Kansas City, Hartford) or if they get really desperate they'll start musing about the mythical Southern Ontario.

The Dome is on its last legs. Another upgrade or update wont cut it.
People here like to laugh at the Jets small building but it is modern.
In 5 years if ground isnt broken on Calgary's new building, there will be talk of relocation. There will be cities that have buildings that can host NHL hockey and cities will make it attractive to relocate. Maybe Calgary will be better off to not give into demands for tax payer money at that point but dont oblivious to the very realistic possibility that may occur.

The arena isn't really the sticking point. Ignoring the haters here that like to believe the CFL doesn't matter, it's likely the football stadium that is the biggest sticking point as the owners really need a new stadium for the Stampeders ability to attract top talent and remain feasible.

Attract top talent from where? Make no mistake, the CFL is the last stop on the professional football train.

^No it's not, there's like 3 tiers of Arena Football in America that most people don't know exist. CFL is the NFL's minor league, so it gets all of the best non-NFL talent in the world. The Stamps are 100% feasible because of the new TV deal, just like their NFL counterparts. The future of sports is in TV, make no mistake. Live sports more and more will become elitist events, not made for the average fan.

It's unsettling to see this eastern Canadian attitude towards the CFL becoming more prevalent here in Calgary. The CFL gets more respect among American football fans than it does in some areas of Canada, which is unfortunate considering that it's an important cultural institution with a long history in this country.
Regardless, McMahon is in need of replacement and renovating it is a fool's errand. It's likely cheaper to build a new stadium that suits our needs from scratch and it's a better use of funds to construct it in an area the will allow for maximum usage (ie. somewhere that is actually able to host concerts, trade shows etc. in addition to football and expanded soccer/rugby usage).

Begin Talk of relocation of most of the City will be saying Buh bye Flames!
What a dumb threat to bring to the taxpayers, even if they are willing to act on it.

The CFL is a pretty far stretch from being considered a minor league NFL. Some players do obviously cross over and continue to try to achieve a career in the NFL but the CFL isn't really filled with the best non-NFL talent. I actually think it would be awesome for the CFL to adjust their model and try to align with the NFL as a minor or development league for NFL talent. With an NFL partnership and some additional funding they could probably expand the league into some American markets and grow the talent pool, salaries and TV rights.

Where is the best non-NFL talent going then? It's certainly not the Arena League. The 128 programs in NCAA Div 1 FBS graduate more than enough talent to sustain both the NFL and the CFL (the major weakness being Canadian talent but that is steadily improving).
The Canadian game is a different game and many of the skill positions are not overly transferable to the American version and vice-versa. Also, why would fans here want to see the best players on their team continually promoted to the NFL counterpart and a revolving door of personnel on their team?

Doesn't bother me at all that we get to see NFL-level players for a few years in the CFL. CFL rosters turn over like mad anyhow so the current situation seems to be working.

I get why that may sound like a good idea, but I'm not on board with the CFL becoming a AAA league for the NFL. If you want to increase the American talent coming up here, maybe just relax the Canadian ratio a bit. Stop trying to force so many Canadians on rosters at the expense of better, American talent if it's available.

Yeah, that's certainly true as well, especially among the more intelligent players who actually earn a degree.

You realize ESPN already televises CFL games right? Also the ratings for CFL games on ESPN2 and 3 often outdraw MLS. Lots of fans down there watched many CFL players on college and like to follow them in the CFL.
