The best burger I've ever had was in the Halkirk hotel. I kid you not. If by some weird twist in the space/time continuum you happen to find yourself in Halkirk, check out their buffalo burgers. Do not under any circumstances drink the water though.

Which has me wondering, what is the proper way to reference the space/time continuum? Had I not read Mr. Prefect's version, I'd have used a hyphen. Space-time continuum FTW!

Ughhhh I don't know why I keep torturing myself by reading this thread! It keeps making me so hungry, and crave a burger soo badly! I don't even usually eat meat burgers... but sometimes there is nothing more satisfying than a biiiig juicy patty with all the fixings.
I think a trip to Boogie's is going to be in order this weekend.

The Coup makes a delicious veg burger, made with yams and nuts and stuff.
Broken City and The Ship both have good veg burgers as well.
Boogie's has a pretty good one too, but the patty is a bit mushy.
Its kinda tough finding good veg burgers at restaurants though, cause most just use frozen patties from the grocery store. I wish more places made their own!

I watched on some fine dining show once that spending money on a Kobe Beef Burger is a waste of time. Reason being, is what makes Kobe beef good is the way the fat is layered in the beef. When you get a burger though, the meat is ground meaning a Kobe burger would essentially no different than a regular burger because what makes Kobe beef different has been destroyed.

I used to frequent Burger Inn a lot in the mid to late 90s, the location in the south, and especially when I worked at the nearby Panago; I've found that the burgers arn't as good as they were back then.. more fast-food-y, which is a bit of a disppointment to me. I also remember the days when they delivered.. that was truely awesome ^.^
I'm also pretty impressed with Tommy Burger, having gone a couple of times; the prices are a little steep, though, I agree.. and I was thoroughly unimpressed with their onion rings however, and the poutine was a bit rich(and I normally love poutine!) I seem to remember that their poutine uses some sort of wine-reduction cheese sauce rather than gravy and cheese curds.
I only recently had my first exerpaince with Rockys, so far it has my vote as the best in calgary. We got there late, but they were still willing to fry up some bacon for us even though they;d run out.. thats pretty nice service. I also love that the fries are cut to order.. I dont know any place that does that.
I do plan on checking out Boogies and Angels and some of the others mentioned in this thread as soon as I can - someone mentioned Inglewood Dive In, which I'd forgotten about.. I went there.. maybe 10-12 years ago just on a whim (was hungry and walking around in that area and went in).. was very impressed with the service and the food.
(off topic: Speaking of this area, quite a few years back (5-6) I used to go to this excellent donair place across the bridge over the elbow near fort calgary.. just past the dean house. Super Donair I think it was called. Best donairs around. Yeah I know its a burger thread, but I figured I'd add this in as a fantastic hole-in-the-wall place to go. On a similar vein, I still need to try out Tubby Dog. )
When it comes to more-common fast food burgers, I kinda like the burgers you can get at Dairy Queen, most specifically the one on Elbow Drive and Heritage, or the one up in the far NW (forget the community.. near hidden valley I think). Unlike mcDs, wendys and so forth, the patties themselves are usually tasty aand juicy, and the buns are excellent. Just a bit on the expensive side.

I'm a big fan of Burger Inn, delicious burgers, pretty good shakes and they probably have the best curly fries/poutine in town. Just my opinion of course but I love that place.

Hit up Boogies last night. I broke with my traditional choice (single mushroom burger) and tried the Keiths burger - not too bad! I feel the need to tackle the 'Don't Fear the Reaper' burger sometime.

The VERY best are the garlic mushroom portabella burgers that are sold in the veggie section of Safeway and Co-Op. Served nestled inside a garlic and herb burger bun (also Safeway) with some caramelised onions and some melted cheese. All barbecued by my husband so no cooking for me. YAY!
The vegetarian KFC burger is pretty tasty as well.

For $15, the best burger in the city can be found at The Laurier Lounge. Freshly ground Filet Mignon, 'nuff said.
