Yeah, Season 2 first half is like season 2 of breaking bad.
Slow build, good payoff.
Except Breaking Bad season 2 was actually good for more than 2 episodes. That first half of The Walking Dead season 2 (minus 2 episodes) was appallingly bad.

Uhmmm I wouldn't say it was bad, but it was definitely a little too slow. And some of the decisions being made, like continually endangering everyone for the little girl over and over didn't seem to make a lot of sense. The barn sequence at the half season cliffhanger did make it worth it though IMO. I shoulda seen it coming and I didn't. Definitely a mouth agape, stomach twisting moment.

It's called character development.
Man people have no patience at all these days.

Yeah, I liked the first half of the season. I didn't need to see zombie killing episode after episode.
That moment at the barn in the mid part of the season isn't as good, isn't as memorable without that slow build up. If she had been missing for only an episode, there's no chance it would have the same effect.
I find the scenarios that these strangers are forced into way more interesting and compelling than just zombie chases and shooutouts.
The zombies are just a vehicle for this great character driven show. How would people react when put into a situation they won't no part of. It's been a great watch.

I don't mind the first half of season two but it was slow. They could have done what they did faster.
The show took a step incline in quality once Glenn Mazzarra took over as EP and show runner from Frank Darabont. Mazzarra seems to get the comics more and how to translate that onto the screen.
IIRC creator Robert Kirkman became a full time show writer too at some point during the 2nd season as opposed to just being behind the scenes.
Walking Dead is a cash cow for Kirkman and Image Comics. At one point it represented half off all books sold through Diamond (exclusive seller of comics) to bookstores.
It's also been attributed to the increase in overall sales at brick and mortar comic book stores. I don't think it's going anywhere soon.
