I will never understand why liking a certain type of comedy makes another type bad. Comedy shouldn't be mutually exclusive, I don't like SNL at all I know I never will but I don't bash it. I know a lot of people who I have respect and admiration for who love SNL. I can also the respect the talent it takes to make some comedy.
OK...Fair enough.
I've just been bitter with comedy as a whole ever since Arrested Development was cancelled.
Everyone needs a taste of their own medicine once and awhile.
Haha come on guys, it's just a funny vid. I dont get why people have to be so polarized with their humour. I own every season of Arrested Development, have all the old Faulty Towers episodes, and I always liked Frasier growing up. I also think Andy Samberg's hilarious, and this video(along with Jizz in my Pants, Dick in a Box) are classics. I love a bunch of different types of comedy, I would get sick of watching the same style over and over.
btw I've probably seen this video 20 times already today. It's got a hold of me!

And yes, that song / video is awesome. Thanks for posting.
Edit: I think that version is brilliant. I grew up a hip hop fan and have now moved into the "all new music sucks" category. Replace the lyrics to that song with "Drop that booty shawty" or "Eat them Cheerios" or "Trap the garden gnome" or some other ludicrous expression used to describe some crappy new dance and you've got a certified club banger!
/music sucks rant end

Ron James has a bit that is very similar to this song:
"what is it about being on a boat that makes everyone go crazy? I'M ON A BOAT I'M ON A BOAT, OH MY GOD I'M ON A BOAT!!! Look at them, they're on a boat too, they're on a boat and we're on a boat, HIIIIIII, HIIIIII, they're on a boat and we're on a boat, oh my god, HIIIIIII!!! You'd never do that any other place, people would think you should be locked up, OH MY GOD I'M IN A CAR AND THEY'RE IN A CAR WOW, HIIIIII, YOU'RE IN A CAR AND I'M IN A CAR, WOW!!!"

These videos from Samberg ARE a good concept. They fail in execution when the actual lyrics aren't smart/witty.
The reason why Dick in a Box and Lazy Sunday worked was because of the brilliant lyrics which were in themselves funny.
This one was just "hey, I'll take cookie cutter synthesizer sequence A, add in auto-tune, and then make a song about one line that isn't funny on its own".
A Dick in a Box is funny. Google Maps vs Mapquest to find Cupcakes is funny. "I'm on a boat" is a buzzkill.
I get the point was to parody music videos and all the glam and lifestyle with being on a boat...but the lines were too pedestrian and unfunny. "I never believed, this could happen to me, I'm on a boat" is just uncreative.

Didn't find it funny for the same reason Hack and Lube stated (it's like a Weird Al song but with young people). Stuff that's contrived and doesn't seem spontaneous tends to be dry. I love pranks and funny stuff that's are not contrived, so this stuff get's a fail from me. T-Pain on his own is a funny sight to see though.
Okay, so I don't do pop culture and I totally don't get it. What's so great about that clip? I'm not trying to dis it. I just don't get it, even with H&L's explanation.
I have to agree that these lyrics weren't as funny or witty as the others, but when you do something as epic as Lazy Sunday, it's almost impossible to follow it up. I think what's funny about this is how if you close your eyes and forget the lyrics this song would be played about a billion times a day on VIBE and would have won 17 grammys last night.
A good parody of rap today, every repetitive with a synthesized background singer (T-Pain) and unimaginative lyrics.
In addition, ever been on a boat? That's exactly what everyone is like. "OH my God I'm on a boat!!! Look they're on a boat too!!!! This is awesome!!! We're on boats!!!!" People lose their minds. Maybe because there isn't as much boating in Alberta? (I dunno, no offence but I don't). But here it seems when you're on a boat you waive to every single other person on other boats within eye sight. It's taking that camaraderie of seafaring to an exaggerated extreme which in turn is what makes it funny. (See George Carlin explaining that joke is all about the exaggeration of reality).

Nice one, troutman!
Also, that video kicked ass! The stupid repetitive lyrics are what made it awesome! It was completely ridiculous!!!
The production was amazing and it sure was a clever way to shoot a ridiculous video for cheap. Yeah, its only funny the first few times, but I will totally go buy that album after how hard I just laughed. Mission accomplished.
Don't be bitter at comdey. Be bitter at stupid people, like Dane Cook fans.
Don't get me stated on that hack. But that video seems like something he would do, it comes across as the same to me. Mindless, superficial, with little to no substance and appealing at a very basic level.
