I don't think it is an issue.
I can get to 9 stores within a 5 minute drive, so it isn't like there are only 3 or 4 places to get beer.
And grocery stores would probably do as good a job checking ID for alcohol as they do checking ID for smokes.

I picked up some Innis & Gunn tonight - $2.99 a bottle plus deposit. It's cheaper than a bottle of beer at the bar. It is chilling right now, I'll try it tomorrow night.

I found some Goose Island offerings at a local store recently, after reading your post. I couldn't recall the specific brews you mentioned so I just went with one...and will try the others later.
I sampled Goose Island's Urban Wheat Ale. Pretty good. I'm not a huge wheat ale fan, but this was definitely one of the better I've tried.
Looking forward to more.

It's an issue. I don't want to derail a thread for beer nerds, considering I'm drinking a Lucky right now, but the no-beer-in-grocery-store law is terrible.

Anyone remember Fogg 'n Sudds?
Damn that place was great for beer. Hard to walk away without a bill totalling more than $50 for myself.

Both the beers I listed, Pere Jacques and Bourbon County stout, are pretty rare. They were both brewed in small batches. If you can find either, I highly recommend getting them. Bourbon County is a December only brew, and Pere Jacques is only brewed during the middle of January. The 312 wheat is pretty good. Honkers is a good, straight up ale.
Goose Island also has really good root beer.

Why?
There are as many places to buy alcohol as there are groceries.
Is it just the extra stop you need to make?

So I walked into our local liquor store and nearly hit the floor. They had my favourite brand.
Kootenay Mountain Ale
First time I've seen it in Calgary. I normally have to stock up everytime I go to BC. I spoke with the owner and he said that they brought in a shipment for a customer and they are going to continue stocking it. Happy Days!

 WHAT?!?!?!
Nova Scotia has some really strict laws and regulations about selling alcohol. However grocery store + liquor store is quite common. While the stores themselves technically don't sell alcohol, NSLC (Nova Scotia Liquor Commission) is moving towards having their stores attached to major grocery stores.
When I lived in Halifax at the back of the Superstore by my apartment (the one on Quinpool Rd) had an NSLC in the back of it, it was basically a section of the grocery store with its own checkout.
The NSLC that I frequent the most now that I'm back in Sydney is the one in Sydney River that has its own entrance to and from Sobeys.
Other NSLC's that are part of grocery stores that I can think off off the top of my head:
Sobey's in Clayton Park has a Boutique (sells a smaller selection)
Superstore on Quinpool has a Boutique
Sobey's in Sydney River has a full store attached
Sobey's in Antigonish has a full store attached
Sobey's in Glace Bay has a full store attached (I think)
Superstore on Barrington Street has a full store attached (IIRC)
Sobey's on South Street has a Boutique
Any I'm forgetting NS crew?
Edit: Oh yeah the point of the thread. I'm not a beer snob, but I'm not a beer slut either, I stick to Keith's when and where possible. If not I'll venture into trying other pale ales. I'm a fan of Rickard's White, and tried it based on the thread that was on here a few months ago.

They really do. Keep on the lookout for Kokanee Glacier Frost (right now its BC only).... I had some in Creston and brought a 12 pk back... its incredibly refreshing. Its essentially a cleaner, smoother Kokanee with no aftertaste.
Kootenay Mountain Ale is also a very nice brew. Had one of those fresh from the brewery too.

Ha! I’m a HUGE beer snob…I’m a pretty easy going guy who will let people have there own opinions and go there own way but when it comes to beer I will let you know what I think
Every time one of my friends get Kokanee, Canadian, Coors Light I just let them have it about how treacherous those beers are than I go on a rant about how micro brewery’s are much better and paying the extra for something with actual taste is worth it, now I have worked at a liquor store for the last year and have tried most beers that are sold in this city…also my roommate is a manager at Willow Park and I get a free invite every time a beer tasting rolls around
On the topic of Inns and Gunn…absolutely fantastic beer…aged in old whiskey barrels that’s where you get that taste

The extra stop is annoying, but even more than that I just don't like these irritating and pointless puritanical little laws we have, especially in regards to booze.
Why not buy beer in the grocery store? What is the reason behind it? As far as I'm concerned it's a law that doesn't have rationale, so we shouldn't have it.

Have a fridge full of Innis & Gunn, the best beer I've had in a long time - found it at Beerfest last year.
If you like it, try Efes Dark (Turkish beer). You can buy it at Willow Park.
