I actually do listen to my parents. But being in the banking industry my Dad sees a lot of skimming (where they install a camera and get your PIN) and stuff like that.
Bank cards are especially tough because there is no insurance or anything if you have your PIN stolen.
I am one of those jerks that uses his Mastercard all the time at Macs for $3 purchases because Credit Cards are fraud protected so if they screw me I get the money back. In fact I have First Cheque card, which has all the purchasing power of Mastercard (it is a Mastercard in fact) but it debits my account about 3 business days later, and won't get approved unless I have the funds in my account. Very handy.
