I wouldn't be surprised if the Rangers put the bug in his ear, as soemone else put it. Sure, it's not proper under the rules, but it happens.
I'm just glad that Feaster salvaged as much as he did. It sucks to lose a 1st rounder that looks close to being NHL ready, by we were 45 minutes from getting one 2nd rounder and nothing else.
It could have happened to any team. Besides Calgary, there are 28 other teams not called the Rangers. Granted, some of those teams might have been acceptable to him, but I'd be willing to bet that he would have pulled the same thing on a lot of teams.

What specifically did Feaster do wrong? I wasn't part of the negotiation, so I don't myself, so it'd be nice if you could fill me in.

I would not be shocked if he plays for the Rangers on the opening night of regular season....
I understand the Flames had to trade the player but its a really sad situation for the Flames organization.

Well. Feaster shows he's different than Sutter already. In has first draft he'll have more 2nd rounders than Sutter has had in years

I was kind of hoping Feaster could package some unwanted salary along with Erixon.

Erixon just looks like a pouty little child in this situation. His way or the highway.
What a waste of a pick.

Throwing salary into the mix when you're on a (relatively) tight deadline to make a deal probably wasn't feasible.

I don't know he didn't look upset about being drafted by the flames in 09. I'm not sure what happened.

Obviously something has changed in the last 6 months that caused him to not want to play here.
Who knows maybe Sutter getting fired is what changed his mind because he thought that he would not get a fair shot since the GM that drafted him was now gone.
|
Can't blame Sutter, he's the one who drafted him in the first place, seeing the potential that he's moved closer towards since his drafting. Sutter gets enough blame for the guys that don't turn out with the lofty expectations they expect, can't blame him for not signing him earlier. Erixon's big leaps have been within the past year, this time last year he was still a question mark IIRC correctly, and Sutter signing him then, and then him either deciding to stay in Sweden another year, and/or having a garbage year in the SEL and not turning out as he has, and the pitchforks would be pointed at Sutter then too.
IMO only, as I said earlier in this (or the other?) thread the Rangers saw an (devious) opportunity in the last two weeks to get a player that was in this situation with the Flames, and had developed fairly well since the last draft, and big time in the last year.
Slats had Andres Hedberg, his dad's old Rags teammate, and head of the Rags Euro scouting, put a call into Jan Erixon and tell him the Rangers may *wink* or may not be interested in his son to play in NY, and would draft him if *wink* he re-entered. The *winks* got passed down to Tim and to the agent, and here we are.
Good riddence.

I can't recall any other player not wanting to begin his NHL career with the Flames.
Are there any other cases?

Tough pill to swallow however at least we got some picks in return. Tim obviously didnt want to be a Flame for whatever reason. So good riddance.
Just because I want to lets look at all Darryls 1st rounders. I like Darryl but this is why he is unemployed.
2003 - Dion Phaneuf - Great start, then Egomaniac, traded for nothing and now looks like he may improve.
2004 - Kris Chucko- Bust
2005- Matt Pelech- Make or break it year, may have also passed last year
2006- Leland Irving- May be a backup this year, starting to show promise
2007- Michael Backlund- Showing signs he can be a player in this league
2008- Greg Nemisz - May be a in the big leagues some day
2009- Tim Erixon- Traded to NYR For picks and prospect, looks like a gem
2010- See Olli Jokinen lol

I'd truly hope Backlund wouldn't be that unprofessional.
I'd say this was the plan all along for Erixon, keep playing well to make sure the Rangers are interested, then be a big baby and get your way.

Maybe, maybe not, but it still would have been nice. Stupid Erixon. I hate all Erikkson's. They're all bad news.

No its not, you don't wait to the 11th hour, if it doesn't look like you can sign him - shop him around. How many GM's knew he was available? Sounds like the Phaneuf deal? Lets negotiate with the Leafs, when most teams didn't know he was available.

Don't worry guys, maybe when Sather signs him to a bad contract and he starts underperforming, we'll trade for him and bury him in the minors as punishment.

Pretty disappointing.
However, I'm not too upset about losing a player who didn't want to sign here. We don't know all the details yet but when draft picks aren't signed, it's usually because the player getting drafted doesn't want to play for that particular team.
Regardless, I applaud Feaster for what he got in return on such short notice. Instead of losing him for only 1 2nd round pick, we end up getting 2 2nd round picks plus a forward prospect.
I'm even more excited for the draft now. I hope down the road, Erixon regrets the decision he's made today.
It's unfortunate, but lets move on.

If this is true don't expect backlund re-sign when his contract is up. He's got a good attitude though so I highly doubt that.
AFAIK He never wanted to be picked by the Flames in the first place. He was hoping NYR would pick him in 09.
