yeah everythig i'm hearing about him is making me like the deal more, its nice to have a kid that really wants to be here... I'm excited to see him in the pre-season... i'd also like to see him center Howse and Nemisz with the Heat

Erixon would still have 3 years remaining on his ELC in that scenario.

Why would Rundblad only have 2 years left on his ELC?

No one has answered why Rundblad got so much better treatment than Erixon.

Same draft, played for exactly the same teams and Rundblad is a year closer to his RFA, UFA and big contract.

So you Erixon haters the Flames screwed him out of $4M on his RFA contract.... Rundblad will be getting his payout and Erixon will be finishing his ELC.

Jesus what a stupid post.

The Flames screwed Erixon out of nothing. It was his decision not to sign prior to last year and compete for a spot, not Calgary's.

Because Darryl Sutter's foresight was one of his biggest flaws as a GM.

Maybe I'm reading into this because I haven't read ALL your posts in this thread.

But are you seriously placing the burden of blame on The Flames' shoulder in this whole debacle? I seriously hope not, I'm not narrow-minded enough to think this rest solely on the Erixon camp, but it does rest largely on it.

I think it was in his underarm. Apparently he had some muscles that were too weak compared to others, and as a result some bones pinched a blood vessel causing it to clot. The doctors were really worried because of how close to his heart it was. He was able to fix it using specialized exercises to strengthen certain muscles, and it's not too much of a concern any more, but he wasn't able to play for the better part of a year.

Anyone else think that Langkow might be an easier contract to move than Stajan? There is the question about how well he will play, but for a team with a low payroll, he is a veteran who brings heart and soul and has put up points and he only has a year left. Could be a decent fill in for a team needing a centre.

So in summary we've proved the Flames have a real bad rep of keeping players away that A, don't want to be here, or for players that B, aren't good enough to be here. What a problem!

If we aren't likely to make the playoffs by the trade deadline, I can see Langkow being moved for a decent return. He can play the shutdown role as well as anyone in the league which allowes the other players on a good team more room to score.

Rundblad and his agent didn't work toward screwing over the team that drafted him by putting off signing his entry level contract and/or refusing to sign one when it was put in front of him. Nor has he worked toward screwing over the team that traded for his contract 2 weeks after he signed.

If the guy won't put his name on the dotted line then the organization cannot really do anything to give him "better treatment".

The problem in this situation remains Erixon, his agent and how they represented themselves. The only failing the Flames had was not catching onto the plot sooner and reacting to get better returns than what we got.

Why is he still not banned? All he does is go into every thread and try to provoke people. I have not seen an actual post that contributes to a discussion.

I am happy that we do get a chance to replace Erixon with 2 2nd round picks this year. That is great on Feaster for getting those picks.

We don't need a young player here who isn't excited to play for the flames. That doesn't sound like the kind of kid we want here anyway. This way Feaster can pick some players that both him and Brent feel will fit into this club.

I am quite optimistic about our future and it sounds like Horak and Howse could develop nicely together, should be a fun year to watch the Heat!!! Lets hope some of the youngsters make the team in 2011/2012 because we do need to develop those kids.

That is backwards - the RW is passing to the LW. I thought he was talking about Ray Whitney and Pat Falloon...

I am just saying that if the Flames did not have a hint that this was coming then they are not to the management level that is required to get a winning hockey team.

However I do not believe that they were caught with their pants as far down as it seems.

I think that they got near fair market value for Erixon that wouldn't have happened had it really been a 30 minute from the deadline offer by Sather.

The NYR offer had to be enough to keep the Flames from pressing the league for for tampering.

There had to be tampering as you don't give 2 seconds and a prospect for a 30 minute negotiation period that you don't have assurances that Erixon will sign.

If Erixon figured he would go top 3 in this draft he ends up with a couple million/year in bonuses for his 3 year ELC.

He didn't go to the Rangers in the last 30 minutes and say he wanted the same contract as Hall or Doughty

There was no way that the Flames could have traded Erixon to say Columbus for 2 seconds and a prospect when Erixon simply might not have signed with them either.

The NHL (if it was major league) would hold a tampering inquiry and find out when Erixon negotiated with the Rangers...... (likely the Flames gave prior permission to see if they could match or better the offer)

If the Flames did not give Erixon permission to negotiate, the trade should stand and Erixon's contract with the Rangers voided and Erixon put back into the draft.

Erixon is not totally to blame and there is a chance that he did not go out of his way to screw the Flames.

We never will know who knew what when.
