Maybe next time some people won't be so quick to throw them out there.
Great job Feaster on getting the team something out of nothing!

What does this have to do with anything.
He wanted to GO NYC where his dad played

I blame this on our scouts. They need to check attitude. Erixon did not seem happy when we drafted him in the first place.

Or he would have been in the AHL developing like he should be.
He hasn't shown anything close to the offensive skill to indicate he should be on the pp or top 6 and with his terrible defensive awareness he is lucky to get 11 minutes in the NHL. If he wasn't a first round pick he wouldn't be up with the Flames based on his track record and ability.

I think blaming Erixon is totally fair game. It is his life after all. This kid isn't 16 or 14. He's a 20 year old young adult.
Sure I understand, that at 20 you probably don't have enough life experience to understand your actions and you rely on your parent's/adviser for advice, but at the end of the day it's his name on a contract and he is a young man now. So I think it's fair game for him to deal with the fallout from a group of fans who aren't pleased with his actions. If the kid thinks he's good enough to play hard ball in negotiations with a professional organization then so be it.

This has nothing to do with Calgary as a city, absolutely nothing.

He has shown just as much offensive skill with Calgary as a player like Matt Stajan has shown, yet receives half the time on the PP.

Backlund is the real deal, and it's a shame the way he's being handled by the Flames. No wonder why the Flames have a bad reputation.
|
And when he was with Sweden WHC it was the Flames that held him out of games.
And in junior in Sweden it was the Flames fault that he had issues with the coach.
Funny how it is never Backlunds fault for his meh play and always everyone else's.

listening to feaster's interview wtih kerr.
makes me very sad. The sad state of the franchise (too many vets on long term contracts, too high a salary cap) getting in the way of signing a quality sure fire prospect.
calgary really needs to fix this teams prospect situation. are there 3 teams that are worse off than the flames today in this league prospect wise??

Really dissapointing. Was looking forward to seeing Erixon in training camp. Surprised by this development, would like to know what happened but I imagine Feaster will be tight lipped to protect Erixon.
A real shame, Erixon has looked relaly good in the SEL. The rich get richer (NYR prospect pool). Big gamble by Erixon, don't want to seem difficult before you sign your first NHL contract.

It's a tough position to be in... Matt Stajan should have more icetime than Backlund, did he deserve it last season? No. But Stajan is def a better player than last year has shown, the guy had a crappy year. What do you do with a player like that? Keeping cutting his ice time? That is not how you should handle a vet who clearly had lost his confidence. You need to let him play his way out of it and it wasn't happening so Stajan was left on the 4th line for the better part of the last half of the season, and Backlund got more and more ice time.
I think next season you will see Backlund playing a better role, this was his first full season in the NHL and showed some great strides and he has to continue playing that way. I suspect this topic will die sometime next fall.

I flat out don't think there's 1 team that's worse off than where the Flames are today in regards to prospect pools.

Kind of Ironic that Jay Grossman is talking about the Flames reputation with young players.
With clients like Radulov, Kovalchuk, and Erixon, his agency is developing quite a reputation of screwing over NHL teams

Well it's easy for us to say since we're fans of the spurned team. I'm not saying he's not free of fault in this by any means, I'm just saying this was definitely something orchestrated by his dad and agent.

The "state" of the franchise has nothing to do with Erixon not coming here, those were BS excuses to force the Flames to trade hime where he wanted to go, where his dad played .... the Rangers. It's pretty bloody clear. All those issues raised weren't issues through the next 3 years. It was BS. The guy had one team in mind. Again pretty bloody clear.

Well, after thinking it over and calming down somewhat, I will agree Feaster likely did the best he could given the situation. My bigger issue now is Feaster publicly stating he is trying to re-sign both Pardy and Carson? Why in hell would he want to do that? Both guys are UFA's and both guys could and should be replaced by either kids from the farm or UFA's more suited to our team needs.

Because we only have one guy on the farm able to step up.
