My ex-roommate is an insanely beautiful, slender, raven-haired girl named Charity. But other than her I totally understand where you're coming from.

On that list, at number 17 for girl baby names, is BABY. That's a cute nickname but for a real name?
Off topic, these common names..Ive noticed that people are naming their their pets with these same names. I know several Yellow Labs named Madison or Sophia or Grace.

The girls aren't so lucky though. It's one thing to give your kid an odd name, and another thing to spell it weird, but it's entirely unacceptable to name a kid the same way a celebrity named theirs. "Brooklyn"? Maybe not so bad if Posh and Becks didn't make it popular, but that's where it came from.
When I was kid I knew an even littler kid named "Rambo". Everybody hemmed and hawed over that one, but the parents said "by the time he's old enough to care, nobody will even know who Rambo is anymore". This guy is probably 22 years old now. I wonder if he went to see his movie last summer.

To Bertuzzied,
You have to give the child a name before leaving the hospital, filling out the form is one thing that has to be done before the baby is released.
|
Unless they've changed the rules, you don't have to. I believe you have something like six months to name your child.
I would imagine those are " Baby" babies are real... I think my sister's birth certificate said McMullen, Girl because when she was born, they didn't think she looked like the name they picked for her. Or something to that effect. Heck, it could've been me. I don't rightly recall. All I know is that one of us had that on their birth certificate and it got changed when we were later given a proper name.

Aw, it's cute! They wanted to make sure they picked the gang nickname and not the clowns that jump him in! He's 5 now, his jump in should be coming up in short order!

Unless it's traditional.
My little nephew is Jakob which is the Dutch spelling. His last name is Bustraan...dutch. I think its appropriate there.

Not to derail, but does anyone else think a person's name can have an effect on who they become? I have never met a "Levi" that did not get in trouble with the law at some point in their lives. Also, I have never met a slim girl named "Charity".

Hmmmm...my little brother is a really good guy but he has been in the tank once!

My son is Stephen Sean...named after my Dad and me I guess (the Stephen part) and he has been cursed with being called by his middle name like my Dad and I both are. BUT...his mother wanted to name him Tristan Jay and he recently found this out. He is now mad at me for giving him such a boring name. I think he'll change his mind eventually.

That's a great name! But I'm biased as it's the same as mine. Why doesn't anyone name their kids Steve or Stephen anymore?

It's such a cool name! Not sure, did you know my first name was Stephen too? I can't remember if we discussed that back in the day. My Dad is Steve so I am Scott...and my son is Sean, but we are all Stephen's.
You know what though, it really bugs me when a guy is named Stephen and doesn't like to be called Steve. Call me Stephen. WTF?

My girlfriend tried to convince me naming our kid (if we ever have one) "Lysander" was a good idea.

OK..mailman here...I see a lot of names.
No offense to my Vietnamese friends, but there are some funny names I've seen. Of course I realize they aren't meant to be. I also don't know the correct pronunciations.
Phouc Diep
Luong Dong
Chiken Liu
These I can remember off the top of my head.
Some other names I've seen on mail....
Previous (I am not kidding)
Theartic (I thought it was theatric for 9 months, just recently realized it isn't!)
JoeLonda (this is a girl)
Stevetta (her dad was Steve)

Totally naming my kid something epic like Leonidas. Perhaps something Ancient Roman/Greek or Biblical. Moses anyone? And I'm not even religious.

LOL! Yeah, I prefer Steve myself (Dad says I was named after Steve McQueen). I can understand the whole "call me Stephen" thing though. I had a friend named David, he used to visibly cringe when people called him Dave. He couldn't stand it. "My name is David, why call me anything else?" he once told me. And that is my son's name. My grandfather was David, his father was, and I think my great great grandfather was also David. I figured it had been 100 years, it was time for another.

Ok, the kid who's parents named him "E" should be sterilized. I sincerely hope that he wasn't their fifth kid...
And sorry flip, someone already had a similar idea. Though they screwed up and named the boy 'Aeneas". What kind of silly name is that? "A-nus".
