Only Lock screen widget I have every used was Widget Locker but it was a three years ago or more.

Would setting up certain profiles work to restrict calls? Not sure, something I have never really thought about.

I want to essentially restrict everything but calls and texts on a device, temporarily, without purchasing a new device.

I think that Start might do it, will play with it tonight and see.

Try something like Tasker to disable wifi/data/sync while on a lock screen and only allowing SMS and calls? You could also blacklist certain numbers so they cannot call or text.

You essentially want to be able to call and text while the phone remains locked? I know I can receive in this manner but cannot send.

Would shortcuts for "direct dial" and "direct message" not be secure enough? Or is this possibly someone more tech savvy that may try to text other people?

That might work. It's really not a big thing to limit the numbers called, but it might be useful at some point, which is why I added that in.

Yes, with the added ability to not allow someone who picks up the phone to use it to call whoever they want.

Some big updates to SwiftKey this morning.

- some different keyboard layouts.
- you can now unlock the keyboard and move it around.
- key sizing.

There could be more.

I like the one handed layout. Much easier to text on my Nexus 4. I was a little worried the smaller keys would make more mistakes but it seems fine so far.

The new keyboard sizes are awesome. Plus they have added a Canadian dictionary.

Hangouts just got updated for everyone for SMS use. Giving it a try. I don't really use Hangouts anyways so it is just a text messaging app for me.

The new humble bundle is out for Android games. The big highlights are probably Ridiculous Fishing and swordigo, which have been out for iOS for some time and just now released for Android. Fishing seems pretty fun and a good time killer. Other games are Epoch, rymdkapsel, spell tower, and kingdom rush.

That's a really strong lineup. Worth paying above average for!

Email app that actually works very well and has a nice interface.

Would love to be able to remove the 'sent with Cloud Magic' that they put in the signature of every email you send.

On second thought, I wouldn't trust CloudMagic with your work exchange email as they seem to store everything on their servers.

Been running into some trouble lately with BBM on my GS3. My wife also has a GS3 and has no issues, but she uses stock and does not close down any applications. I'm running the latest CM nightly and quite often hold the home button and close all running apps. Just something I've got in the habit of doing.

If BBM is one of those apps (even if you leave the persistent "connected" icon on within BBM settings), messages will NOT be delivered to the device until you reopen BBM. Essentially I don't know the details of how the apps run in the background, but in the Windows world, BBM is not running as a service so it is actually closed when I close past running apps and is nowhere in memory (even with the connected icon still there), so no messages get delivered.

My wife and I are back using Kik now because this simply is not good enough for a messaging app. If I have to ensure it is running in the background at all times to get messages, what good is it? If I reboot the phone, I have to remember to go into BBM to ensure it is running, in order to receive messages. BBM = Fail in my book. Oh Blackberry...

Flipboard is a good app to just flip through news stories. You can subscribe to different topics and such.
