I know I am living in the past, but what is the purpose of these third-party messaging apps over just using SMS?
Group chats, delivery receipts, read receipts, speed of delivery, they can use wifi to send messages, to name a few. They have the potential to be much more secure (yay for drug dealers!).

BBM isn't what I would call secure. It is at best, slightly garbled. The messages are encrypted, but the key is public and is the same for everyone unless you are on a BES server.

But I guess even I can't fault them for doing it with all the blatant piracy that occurred with the first one.
When it was released on iOS, all the reviews said that it was F2P done right. Don't need to buy anything, doesn't become frustrating/require a long grind if you choose not to pay.
Also the ability for instant delivery and receiving once you get data back. With SMS if you don't have service, it can take a couple hours for your message to come through once you get service back.
But they are not very secure. Whatsapp can be hacked in a half hour.
Anyone else having issues with Facebook Messenger when you scroll up through old message it constantly keeps jumping down to the bottom. Kinda annoying.

I thought it always did this. In order to 'refresh' and pull the older messages, it just sends you back to the bottom. :/
Have to put another vote in for Sygic. The navigation app.
Just finished a trip driving the Pacific Coast Highway from LA to San Fran. I put Sygic on my Nexus 7. The North America map package was 40 dollars and the 7 inch screen was a great navigation tool. It almost had too much info on it. I found myself looking at the Nexus too much instead of the road.
There were a few weird things that happened (Sent me off the freeway in a loop only the merge back on) but I don't think too many GPS's are without their issues. The POI database is also very detailed.
If you already own a device 40 bucks for a fully featured GPS is the best deal going.
I am looking for a lock screen widget that will allow phone calls.
Bonus points if it can be restricted to use only a few set phone numbers.
Extra bonus points if it can send text messages as well. (or a separate text widget even)
