Did Google just decide to give their loyal users of their apps the one finger salute for some strategic reason? The motivation behind some of their recent changes totally escapes me on a usability level. There has to be something going on there.

I'll let your logic fill you in on that one. There is some Crap changes, but I highly doubt any nefarious reasons

Google falling victim to the "change for sake of change" thought process imo.

I downloaded a game called Plague Inc. Pretty cool. You get to create a virus and then try and destroy the world with it by altering its DNA and creating new ways for it to be transmitted.

I don't think it was necessarily Google being evil, but if they're establishing Android and the associated Google apps as being stable and usable, this isn't winning them any fans. If you even look at the reviews of the latest changes to Maps, there is not a single positive comment about it. Hell, a lot of the recent comments in the Play are either telling people how to revert back to an earlier; how much it sucks; or clarifying that their positive reviews were for the previous version, which didn't suck.
On that note, looks like updating Tapatalk was also a bad mistake.

Maps is just awful now. It used to be so easy to get directions. Now I feel like I have to take an extra 5-6 steps to get the same information as before. Same with the web version of Maps. Good thing they give you the option to go back to the old version.

you can revert back to how it used to be.
in your addressbar type:
about ://flags
Then look for:
Enable Instant Extended API
Set the flag to disabled, relaunch chrome and it should to back to how you used to like it

Is this thread applicable for an andriod tablet ?
I just bought a tablet, samsung t3 and don't know anything about using it as of yet. Seems like a toy that I suprisingly got bored of quicky until I downloaded a book. Surely I must be doing something wrong?

It really depends on what you were hoping to get out of the tablet. Whether that's some casual gaming through apps, media consumption in the form of videos online/downloaded, books etc. Etc. And browsing.

Really like an App called "Key Ring". Helps organize my convenience cards and make my wallet thinner.

Going on vacation, didn't want to bring a laptop for email and stuff. I don't do social media but the wife does.
Wondering if I should have bought the Note 3 vs. the Tab 3 as it seems a bit slower than the Note (quad cpu) model I was playing with in the store.
Is there a better thread for this?
Try to decide if I should keep the T3 I bought, get a Note 3 (I think that's what it was called) or try a google nexus.

Just to clarify, the Note 3 is a 5.7 inch phone. There is a Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet and then the the Asus Nexus 7 (2013 version). If you're unhappy with the Tab 3, definitely go for the Nexus 7. There's no reason no to unless you need to have that microSD card slot.

I was talking about the 8" tab vs. thhe note 8.0.
The expandable slot is probably quite important for me as I'm more likely to use the device for watching content that I've downloaded vs. a service.

The next version of Google Hangouts for Android will likely replace the stock Messaging app with a single, unified Hangouts version that detects whether the respondent is also using Google’s new multi-platform chat-and-conference service, and if so will send the message over data, and if not will send it via SMS.

I've been noticing that the "new" versions of Google apps that seem to have lost functionality are getting those functions back.
I wonder if it is due to outcry, or if these new versions of the apps are part of Google un-coupling the apps from the OS to allow easier updating on older versions of Android?
