If Mel Gibson has taught us anything its that all we need to win an alien war is a wooden door with a lock, and a garden hose.
This could save us billions upon billions of dollars!
Or, you know, due to the fact that there is always a percentage of water vapour in the air at all times we wouldn't even need garden hoses! God I hated that movie.

Wasn't the movie all a dream - not really an an alien attack story?
I hate to tell you this but McGyver was a TV show. It was fake. There is no McGyver. So we are pretty much doomed!
It was not 'just a TV show' it a documentary chronicling the life of Richard Dean Anderson and it was shot live and in real time just like 24. Between the two of them we're fine.
A tag team of Jack Bauer and RDA would kick any and all alien ass. Just for good measure we can throw in Will Smith and Bill Pullman, we're told they have 'experience' at this kind of thing.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Well deleting the wacked out old guy from the equation it wouldn't surprise me that the Americans are planning to have a military base on the Moon. Whether they use "aliens" as an excuse or protecting their interests there(mining or whatever) I'd be thinking they are 2-1 favorites as first to plant some "rail guns" on the Moon.
If they're in a UFO, capable of either travelling faster than the speed of light, or teleporting, how in hell could you shoot it?
Pshaw! Everyone KNOWS that you can't use light speed travel or gate technology within systems or close to planets, you'll just put a hole in your ship when you hit something.
Eventually they'll have to slow down to enter near our moons orbit or further and when they do we'll be ready for them!
In all seriousness, who let Mr. Hellyer open his mouth for this interview. What the heck? How can we make fun of, and feel superior to, the Bush administration when we have idiots like this doing the press rounds?
This guy is our CURRENT deputy Prime Minister? Or former, like former minister of defense.
Man, I can't stand Tucker Carlson but I give him props for not losing it during that interview.
I recall hearing a good quote (not sure by whom) about visiting aliens. It went something like this.
If intelligent beings are capable of traversing the immense distances of space they would be so advanced that we could not differentiate them from gods.
If they wanted us dead there would be nothing we could do about it. Not even boarding the mothership and uploading a virus would work.

I said something very similar to that on a thread on here once. Didn't use the word god though.
Basically if they could traverse the distance between systems (more likely galaxies) they'd have to have achieved some way of faster than light travel or warp/portal technologies. If they could do that, they could answer a lot of the basic questions of the universe, of life, of philosophy and religion (if applicable) by seeing the beginnings and endings of space and possible time, the workings of the universe.
There is no reason why they'd want to make contact with us. They would have absolutely zero to learn, and would probably be far beyond wanting to contact us for any emotional reasons be they 'good' or 'evil' reasons.
The only way a slightly less advanced race could visit us and might be interested in us would be through the use of a naturally occurring warp phenomenon of sorts, whatever that ended up being. And still, they would appear to be like gods to us, there might be no way for the two species to actually interact.
Location: In a land without pants, or war, or want. But mostly we care about the pants.

1. Aliens would be, well, alien, so you can't really say what they might or might not do in any wise, never mind specifically in the case of contacting humanity.
2. Scientific advancement does not necessarily correlate with moral advancement. Our current technology would look godlike to people of the Middle Ages, but our morals certainly wouldn't.

^^^ 1. Well we can try to contact an ant hill, we can even keep one, doesn't mean the ants can interact with us, or are even aware of us.
2. I get what you're saying, and yeah that makes sense in our microcosm, but I believe that if they able to bend time and space they obviously have technologies that would be completely disasterous if they hadn't advanced to a higher morality. They might even be beyond questions of morality, existing like a true hive mind, or living as beings of energy without emotion. I have a real hard time believing a race that is as war like as we still are, would be able to safely research and use such awesome power.
