Have you seen our RCMP force? we are so under strength it isn't funny......and then you take into account that it's the RCMP....pretty sure %80 of them compleltey wing it when it comes to traffic enforcement, which makes it nice and easy to get off a ticket.

Well, it's 10 to 20 minutes from anywhere in Calgary.

yeah because I love traffic whizzing by my house when kids are outside playing....when I lived in A-town and somebody went speeding by my residential neighborhood they got a beer bottle to the back of their car. Usually some dumb ass from Calgary with a wing on the back of their $500 car that sounded like a lawn mower

I see. So what you're saying is that a crazy racist guy hucking beer bottles into the street is not dangerous to the little white kids. I think I understand. You're teaching them the proper way to deal with Calgarians.

Your kids shouldn't be playing on the street.

What the crap is going on in Airdrie? In the past week a 2 day old baby gets killed by the family husky, a lady gets raped in the afternoon by a 'salesman', and now there is a murder-suicide.

Must be the water.

I'm looking at buying a home for the first time, 23 year old single guy. Looking at Airdrie too.

Personally I don't care if it's a parasite community, that's for the urban planners to talk about, I just need an affordable home in a decent area.

Airdrie doesn't exactly scream '23 year old single guy'. . . unless you want to mack on the soccer moms.

You should turn in your 'getting laid any time soon' card if you're a 23 year old guy looking to buy in Airdrie. RIP your sex life

*Last Call*
Hey baby, come on back to my place
sure, let's get a cab big man
Cant take a cab, we have to get a lift from your fat friend over there, as it's a $200 cab ride to Airdrie
See yah

Assuming you plan to commute into Calgary for work each day, is Airdrie really that much more affordable once you factor in all the extra expenses for gas, parking, and mileage on your vehicle?

Why not just rent an apartment near your workplace? You'll save a ton of money which you can use for either investments or saving for downpayment on a home when you're older and no longer single.

I tend to agree with the others in this thread. Despite the fact that most of the posts are WAAAY over exaggerating the cons.

I live in Airdrie and I wouldn't have wanted to live here when I was 22 and single that's for sure.

Of course it all depends on your lifestyle. If you aren't going out drinking to meet girls on the weekends then Airdrie will be fine. Actually Airdrie would likely be fine for that for a little while, but once you go to the cookie jar too many times it would probably come back to bite you.

If you don't go out drinking often and your work isn't way in the South, then it's definitely an option.

Okay, but I stand by my comment that all you're going to do is work, commute and stay home. Airdrie is the most boring place on earth.

saillias - give us some info like where you work and what your budget is. Show us what you've found in Airdrie and we'll find something for you better in every single way in Calgary for the same price.

It just strikes me that as a single 23 year old, moving to Airdrie is going to make you the 'Forever Alone' guy.

Lol... You're trying way too hard. I work in a real estate related job, so I have to keep a close eye on the market.

I shopped around for 2 years before deciding to buy in Airdrie, and I can assure you with 100% certainty that I could not get a better house for my lifestyle and an equivalent property for anywhere near the same price.

As I stated previously the identical house to mine sold for 40,000 more than mine and is the the same distance to the core as my property. Despite the fact that I could afford that difference why would I? There is no advantage for me, and I don't work in the core and didn't particularly enjoy living there after 4 years.

My commute from the core to my job (I dont work in the core) was the same as my commute from Airdrie.

Saillias: If you are 23, single into the night life at all then the only place you should be looking is near the core..

I live in Airdrie and I really like it but I probably wouldn't have when I was 22 and single.

Sliver is being over the top but everyone else is giving you sound advice. However we know nothing about what you are actually looking for. Where you work, and your lifestyle are big factors.

Well from the numbers we've seen in here, it looks like you save about seven or so per cent on a $400,000 house in Airdrie versus Calgary. I think with a little effort you'd be able to close that gap (whether it'd be finding a desperate seller, being a good negotiator, or just finding a good deal).

Anyway, maybe I am being over the top. If I'm wrong I'll admit it, but we won't know until we look based on his search criteria.
