My wife and I moved to
Airdrie in 2001 and it was because we got more house for our budget then we got in Calgary. It was also a shorter commute to our work at the time from the newer Calgary Communities
We moved into a brand new community with a newer school in it. Our children will never have to ride a bus to get to school until they get to high school. (by then they may even have a high school that is close to us)
We have a great sense of community not just in our Neighborhood but as a city as a whole. I moved from a different province like alot of people out here and have grown an extensive social network of people in
Airdrie that I like and trust.
I have lived in Hillhurst, Mount Royal, Rundle and Mayland Heights prior to moving here and will generalize those communities the following way.
Hillhurst is filled with a bunch of elitist, former hippy yuppies that either rent slum houses to young DB versions of themselves or complain about their neighbors that renovated their house and pressure the slumlords to do the same.
Condo in Mount Royal had regular drug deals going on in back of the building. Great place to raise kids.
Rundle had NO ONE that showed ANY pride of ownership. Worst two months of my life waiting to take possession of my house.
Mayland Heights was quite, too quite. My wife and I were the exact same age as everyone on our streets GRAND CHILDREN.
My friends and family that spend the effort and time to see me and my family here in
Airdrie have the same respect reciprocated and the ones that aren't willing to commute well I consider myself lucky they are no longer in my life.
Bottom line: I live in
Airdrie, I love living here, my family loves it here and It's a great place to raise kids.
