I started watching the wire a month ago and now i can't watch anything else. I'm almost to the end of season 3 and it keeps getting better. Everything, from the location, the acting, relationships, scenarios, etc. is so refreshing compared to everything else out there.

Well I just finished the series from start to finish. There were a couple days where I pounded through like 5-6 episodes, I've never done that for a show before except Lost when I got caught up trying to catch up watching the first two seasons.

Just wanted to say, if it wasn't for this forum I probably would have never gotten into this show and I'm extremely glad I finally did after years of putting it off. Seasons 1 & 4 were my favourites. Definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a series to jump into.

I just finished watching all the seasons. While it doesnt eclipse The Shield imo it is still a great series.

The swaring and overall vulgar language was fantastic.

As much as I love the Shield (and I do love it) I cannot put it on the same level as The Wire. The overall plot and character development in The Wire are second to none. They never got too bogged down on any one character or storyline and instead gave a exceedingly accurate and very entertaining depiction of the drug trade in Baltimore, all the way from the corner dealers to the dirty politicians. In my opinion the Wire stands with Sopranos and Oz as the best television drama's of all time.

The Shield, despite being a great show, lacks the realism of a show like The Wire. The main crux of The Shield, really, is Vic and the boys covering their arses time and time again after making questionable decisions. The situations that result definitely play out well for television drama but don't give me the authentic feel that The Wire does. The thing that bothered me the most with The Shield was Kavannaugh setting up camp in the barn while investigating the strike team, no way in hell would a police department allow internal affairs to work out of the same station house as the officers they're investigating for murder. Or, after finding a brick of heroine in Lem's vehicle, they let him go back to police work in attempt to bring down more dirty cops?? I am not a police officer, but I have to think that any cop found with any large quantity of drugs would never be allowed to carry a badge or go back on the streets again until he was tried in a court of law.

Not big beefs, very minor really but it is the small things that make a great show.

This has been linked around the web for the past few days. Pretty awesome, except I think Omar should be Lawful Neutral, not True Neutral. Frank Sobotka might be a better candidate for True Neutral.

I just started season 5 last night. Got through the first 4 seasons in 3 weeks and was surprised when this thread popped up.

Scanning through, I read about Prop Joe and Omar...

You entered this thread before finishing the series? You crazy.

I think Omar makes a good neutral ... he plays both sides pretty well. As for Barksdale being chaotic neutral I just don't know.

Such a good show. Just finished all five seasons and it was incredible... One of those shows I'd actually buy the DVD's of because I'd probably watch it again...

Omar really should be Lawful Neutral. "A man must have a code." By definition that makes him a Lawful character.

Nick from Season 2 might be a good True Neutral. He's not really a bad person, but he does bad things out of necessity. Ditto for Michael in Season 4.

Agree with you there. Avon is probably Neutral Evil. Ziggy would be a much better choice for Chaotic Neutral.

I can't watch any St Louis Blues games and not think of The Wire. Eveytime Vladimir Sobotka touches the puck and the announcer says his name, I think of Frank and Ziggy.

God, I miss the Wire. I think it's time to pull out the DVD's and re watch.

Better suited for clay Davis. He had one in the 2nd or 3rd episode of season 5 that went for about five seconds. One of my favorite wire moments.

So I've just now discovered The Wire - don't know why I passed it up for so long. In preparation for recovery from hip surgery I started compiling some TV to watch while laying on the couch & enjoying Percocet. I downloaded The Wire, Eastbound & Down, and Bored to Death. The Wire is so good! Only 6 episodes in but this is the best TV I've watched in years. Gonna have to dedicate the rest of the month working thru the whole thing (while not reading this thread)!

Oops, sorry, that's who I meant. I'm blaming sleep deprivation.
