A lot of people don't grasp the concept of the Salary cap and that all the teams spending to the cap have to shed 6M of cap space.

LA has UFA Penner,Brad Richardson and Regher.

Penner's leaving doesn't even cover Quick's raise that starts next year.

They have key young RFA's that have already won a SC:

Voynov (2.5), Lewis (2), Clifford (2), Nolan (1.5), Muzzin (2), Martinez (1.5)

(Anything less than 3.3M offer sheet results in a 2nd round pick compensation)

Signing the RFA's at these new lower 2013-14 cap discounts that would leave them with 20 guys signed and 2.5M left to sign 3 more roster players including a goalie.

Bernier and Ellerby are also RFA's that they have to deal with.

Bernier will be making 3M + somewhere.

LA July 2013 a lot closer to Chicago July 2010 who were cap forced traded Ladd, Byfuglien and Versteeg, for prospects and futures than making offers to pricey UFA's.

No way the Pens let Dupius walk to sign Iginla. People are talking as though anyone could put up his numbers playing with Crosby. Fact is, the two have great chemistry. You can bet keeping their franchise player happy is going to be a factor for management.

Iginla isn't playing for a top team next season because none of them will be able to afford him. Not unless they want to lose younger core players.

Dupuis scored 25 goals in 2011-12 with Jordan Staal as his centre.

With the cap coming down, I don't think many contenders will have the money to throw at him. Ottawa sounds reasonable given their cap room.

These factors will determine part of how much he's worth and where he will play, since that's the point of this thread, not what the Penguins were expecting from Iginla.
Not to mention his experience mentally as a 35yr old that has carried and captained a team for years.... This is probably just as important as his point production.
