I liked Richardson a lot in Arizona but I don't know if he's capable of playing that well anymore.

Richardson is a fine player, but I still don't really like this.

The only way this team makes the playoffs is if young players get an opportunity to excel (because the roster as-is, and as expected, will probably miss the playoffs). I'm not saying they will excel if given the opportunity, but having players like Richardson in the way, who WILL play under Sutter, just caps the performance of the bottom half of this roster.

This team will likely be on the cusp of the playoffs all season long, but I think this is just kind of boring.

I can tolerate boring hockey if it results in a winning season and a playoff spot. That's what you are putting your money on with Darryl as head coach anyway. If they stink like last season I predict there's not going to be a lot of sunshine in this forum. I will choose to look to the positives of a high pick in a better draft and hopefully new GM.

Looks like he's wearing #15.

Guess Eichel is gonna have to channel ROR and wear #90 before leading us and becoming playoff MVP.

Darryl does love playing the kids, so yeah should be nothing to worry about.

What young centre is ready?

Gawdin could play, but he's probably not ready to play every night.

Ruzicka is not ready. Phillips is not a centre. Froese? You want more Froese?

Don't even start with Pelletir and Zary, they aren't ready and they probably aren't even going to be centres.

Kid, you want to play in the NHL? All you need to do is be better than 36 year old Brad Richardson

I think that Pelletier is going to surprise people. Mostly because he plays with the habits that NHLers do. I don't expect him to play up the lineup but I do think he gets a good hard long look.

You're right. It was Richardson or nothing.

When players are sent out for Eichel we’re going to need guys to ice a full roster.

I'm fine with this and don't understand the complaining. Everyone was concerned about the culture in the room and the Flames have brought in Tanev, Markstrom, Lewis, and Richardson. Either well liked and respected talented veterans or members of a championship team to be role players and depth.

Sutter wants to develop an identity and he has brought in guys who he know will buy in.

If Ruzicka/Pelletier/Zary can't separate themselves from Pitlick/Lewis/Richardson then they probably need more time to develop and there are always injuries.

I also wish they got Eichel but I'm still excited for the season.

Pretty standard move for the flames, sign a vet to put pressure on the tweeners. The issues of this team won't be exposed on whatever line Richardson is playing on.

Default Flames sign Brad Richardson (1 yr, $800k)

I hate to be a Debbie downer, but this thread is so predictable for CP save for a few individuals.

Treliving is clearly on a mandate this off-season to build a forward group that can defend very well. Especially within the bottom 6.

Lewis, Richardson, Pitlick, and Coleman are all excellent on the defensive side of the puck. Everyone wanted Darryl Sutter to come coach, you have to give him the pieces to coach the way he wants to.

For 1 year 800k there is literally no risk here. He falls off a cliff then you can just waive him. No this doesn’t mean “Calgary can’t attract PTO’s” like come on.

It’s a small piece to the identity that Sutter and Treliving are trying to build.

If our newly formed top line can keep producing like they were last year after being put together and we can win the bottom six battle most nights the Flames will be in good shape.
