I believe he ended up sticking with the team halfway through the season. He was just pissed, and arguably rightfully so. He showed he belonged for sure, but I think Brodie is a prime case of Treliving's claim that you can't over develop a player. Nothing wrong with seeing things at 3/4 speed for a while.

However, I don't recall anyone asking for him to be traded or calling him a bust.

Yeah I don't recall anyone calling Brodie a bust. The expectation wasn't there to call him a bust imo. I think many had his ceiling (myself included) as a second pairing d-man. I do remember some questioning Playfair's "reputation" as a great developer of defensemen as no one was really making the jump. Brodie is the exception from that era, not just where he is now, but that he made it to the show at all. So many D-men disappointments but at least one has seemingly turned into a home run.

I don't think so, can't find any quotes from Brodie. But Feaster criticized him for not respecting the quality of the AHL.

EDIT: found something..nothing about pouting though. Had to do with his play and nothing he said. He responds pretty well to it.

For. T.J. Brodie, the official welcome to adulthood came on New Year's Eve at precisely 6 p.m. PT. On orders of head coach Jim Playfair, Brodie slumped into a press-box seat to watch his Abbotsford Heat teammates play without him.

Talk about a (temporary) fall from glory for one of the top defensive prospects belonging to the Calgary Flames.

"Sometimes you need a kick in the butt to get going," Brodie says, not shying away from media queries about his rough ride in the minors. "Sometimes you need an eye-opener to grow and mature and get better."
Quote:
"I've talked to T.J. about this," acting general manager Jay Feaster said last weekend after Brodie sat out. "He's a young player, and it's going to take a little time for him to respect the American Hockey League."

Respect the American Hockey League?

"I think because of the taste he had at the NHL level -- the success at the NHL level -- I think he went into Abbotsford with a total lack of respect for the quality of play."
Quote:
Message received, according to Brodie.

"Ever since I sat out that game, I've felt better," he said. "I'm more clear about what they expect of me and what they need me to do out there."

Make no mistake: Brodie is a dazzling skater. In junior hockey, he relied on speed to burn past defenders and cover up any mistakes in his own zone.

That approach simply does not mesh with the Jim Playfair school of hockey.

"T. J. came down here and he was in a rush to get back to the NHL," Playfair said. "He was playing a little bit out of control, and we're trying to get the base of his play back in order."
I assume Playfair felt Brodie could have been better and that message got relayed to Feaster.
This sounds oddly familiar with a certain player today though....

Playfair on T.J. Brodie, who was a healthy scratch: "Not playing well enough, not doing what's he's told."

He certainly had a rocky time in the AHL for at least one season, but responded well afterwards.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure at one time Brodie gave credit to Playfair for teaching him the defensive game even though it was a hard lesson. Playfair is a good coach, too bad it didn't work for him here.
