No big surprise as Boomer has taken many shots at the Flames.
Didn't really say why he thought Brodie was overpaid except he is benefiting from playing with Giordano. He used the Batman Robin analogy basically calling Brodie the Robin of the two.
Pretty frustrating considering how little he watches the west and the Flames.
|
Not surprising that someone who doesn't see the west much might think that.
Doesn't make him any less wrong though.
Well, to be accurate, playing with Giordano has obvious benefits for Brodie. But to flippantly dismiss Brodie's growth, simply because Giordano is awesome, is incredibly simplistic and foolish.
In fact, I would take it in the other direction and say that, so far this year, Brodie has been the one driving the pair as often as not.

I'd say no. He was definitely NHL-ready in his rookie year (probably would have been ready the year before too if not for the lockout). Whatever went wrong with Phaneuf wasn't because he was rushed into the NHL.

My opinion is offensively he was ready. Defensively he wasn't.

But great job Burke.

So because his contract is up during the middle of "our run", you want an extra year? Does Brodie seem like the type of guy who would play through a bunch of crappy years and then leave when things got great? There's also no guarantee at that point the Flames will be where we all want them to be.

He does think that Brodie is mostly good because of Gio, but he certainly isn't alone and it's not because of a bias. He openly admits he doesn't see much of the west outside of the better teams, so that does play into it

There is a reason that Giordano had a career year at 30 years old once he was paired with Brodie.
I am not taking anything away from Giordano who has been awesome. But Brodie adds as much to that pairing as Giordano does. Plus Brodie is a young guy who just keeps getting better. He is the real deal.

Get a grip.
And what if he was beat up a lot as a kid, would that make you feel better?
It's hard to believe this type of behaviour is coming from a grown man.

Don't think so. Phaneuf was being mentored by Roman Hamrlik and they were a pretty good combo. Phaneuf learned a lot from Hamrlik.
Hamrlik was traded the next year and then Phaneuf basically had all the weight on his shoulders.
He needed another year or two of mentoring by an established defenseman.
Plus, Phaneuf has a pretty big ego...one that gets in his way sometimes.

Love the Brodie contract. One could argue he is worth the money right now, yet officially the contract doesn't start till next year. If he continues the way he has been playing it is a steal of a contract by the end of the year, after 5 years??? Management may wind up in prison for this contract.
If Brodie never improves, or even regresses a little at this point. Its not a bad contract.
Those who say Gio made him the player he has become? It works both ways. Yet I do have to say Gio needs to get PAID!

Things went wrong for Phanuef when he was traded to Toronto. Bad coaching and such has him where he is. I have often wondered where he game would be if he was still with the Flames.

Ahh, but he's got a point, though. I really don't know why people like MMF's drivel posts.
All he does is sit and pick apart other posters and their comments rather than actually contribute anything at all to the discussions at hand. Often in an obvious attempt at being funny or witty, but he tries way too hard. And yet people eat it right up. It probably is an overcompensation after being the brunt of the joke much of his life. But don't give a desperate attention whore what he wants. Never do that. We need to force him to give up his little act already.

Respect is earned in any facet of life Dion.
Asking someone if he was beat up as a child, is disrespectful and potentially damaging on multiple fronts, and shouldn't just be swept under the rug.
edit, I posted this at the same time as moderator, I will drop it.
