I feel like Brodie could have pushed for a bit more than this. Definitely makes me feel good about sporting my Brodie jersey for years to come!

I assume Limited NTC = the "Anywhere but Edmonton" clause.

As for Brodie... damn fine deal.

Yeah, probably. I'm just worried Bouma will leave like Nystrom and Prust.
And I think Bouma brings more to the team than either of those 2 in intangibles.

Prust was dealt for a good reason (maybe not in hindsight). The flames needed to win now and had to part with him to land Jokinen who was supposed to be the answer to the center ice conundrum. Flames were plenty rough and tumble at the time (ok maybe not in hindsight).
I don't see Treliving changing the team dynamic like that just now

I would also add that the Brodie contract is also another feather in the cap for Bob Hartley. Brodie has really devloped under his tutelage. It's another sign that Hartley has a good relationship with the young players.
I would like to see a contract extension for Hartley as well.

I agree, the next extension should be Hartley.

I don't know about you guys but I think this is going to be an absolute steal for us. Probably going to be one of the best value contracts in the league in 2 years.

Brodie is a $4.65M AAV. Interesting: his first year is $3.9M -- a nod to Giordano, who has one year left on his deal at $4M. (1/2)

Everything isn't black and white, there are nuances to every deal and this is an example of showing respect for Giordano that a few predicted.
Wideman's salary isn't a consideration. He was signed as a UFA and as often with high salaried UFAs, isn't playing up to his salary.

As of today, Brodie will be 35th among defensemen in terms of cap hit next season.
01. 9,000,000 Subban, P.K. (MTL)
02. 7,857,143 Weber, Shea (NSH)
03. 7,538,462 Suter, Ryan (MIN)
04. 7,250,000 Letang, Kris (PIT)
05. 7,143,875 Campbell, Brian (FLA)
06. 7,000,000 Phaneuf, Dion (TOR)
07. 7,000,000 Doughty, Drew (LAK)
08. 6,916,667 Chara, Zdeno (BOS)
09. 6,500,000 Karlsson, Erik (OTT)
10. 6,500,000 Pietrangelo, Alex (STL)
11. 5,800,000 Seabrook, Brent (CHI)
12. 5,760,000 Burns, Brent (SJS)
13. 5,750,000 Markov, Andrei (MTL)
14. 5,750,000 Enstrom, Tobias (WPG)
15. 5,750,000 Niskanen, Matt (WSH)
16. 5,538,462 Keith, Duncan (CHI)
17. 5,500,000 Girardi, Dan (NYR)
18. 5,500,000 Carle, Matt (TBL)
19. 5,500,000 Orpik, Brooks (WSH)
20. 5,500,000 Ekman-Larsson, Oliver (ARI)
21. 5,500,000 Myers, Tyler (BUF)
22. 5,500,000 Wisniewski, James (CBJ)
23. 5,400,000 Bouwmeester, Jay (STL)
24. 5,250,000 Wideman, Dennis (CGY)
25. 5,250,000 Streit, Mark (PHI)
26. 5,250,000 Yandle, Keith (ARI)
27. 5,142,857 Bogosian, Zach (WPG)
28. 5,000,000 Edler, Alex (VAN)
29. 5,000,000 MacDonald, Andrew (PHI)
30. 5,000,000 Greene, Andy (NJD)
31. 4,941,429 Pronger, Chris (PHI)
32. 4,833,333 Faulk, Justin (CAR)
33. 4,750,000 Kronwall, Niklas (DET)
34. 4,700,000 McDonagh, Ryan (NYR)
35. 4,650,000 Brodie, T.J. (CGY)
Plus obviously there'll be UFA signings like Sekera, Boychuk etc., so when all is said and done, Brodie probably won't be among the top 40 defensemen in terms of cap hit next season ... in terms of actual payment he'll even be further down the list. If you let that sink in and also look at some names that are ahead of Brodie, you can't help but congratulate Treliving on this. He's made a couple really good UFA signings (Raymond, Hiller), but this has to be his best move as a Flames GM so far.

Right. I was thinking what he is going to extend for, which will happen next year (crosses fingers).

This signing is a steal, even if he stays the same and doesn't improve, which seems unlikely.

#35 in cap hit and currently tied for #1 in points for D-men thus far in the 2014/15 season. Nice.

The rest is spread out evenly over four years. There is a limited NTC and a no-move clause starting in Year III, when he becomes eligible.
