There are all kinds of comparables. We have been talking about them for 100s and 100s of posts.
Just because his agent is being over zealous does not mean its unique or special.

So slow down.

He's not Lemieux, no. But his first 2 seasons put him in the company of elite players, which is something special. He's standing out amongst the best in he world at the WCH. It takes a special talent to do that.

No offense, but Johnny's dangle on Sbisa has nothing on Jankowski's Toews-esque backcheck in the 2015 development camp scrimmage.

Or Tuulola's career defining break out scrimmage.
Or Fleury's "historic" shootout goal.

Dion Phaneuf did the same thing.
You appear to believe Gaudreau is going to be gunning for the Hart and Art Ross trophies for the length of his next contract. Fine. Everyone involved (and the fans, who are definitely not involved) wants exactly that to happen, but it's irresponsible and job-losing and team-screwing to pay the guy based on what you want to happen.
You love the guy. Fair enough. I do to, but I love the Flames more, and can't ignore the fact that there is a salary cap. And that as much as I want it to happen, he might not be Patrick Kane.

Dion is a great cautionary tale. At one point he was talked about int he same breadth as AO and Crosby as to who was the best young player in the game.

Seriously. This.
Dion Phaneuf finished third in Calder voting that year, to Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. Scored 20 goals as a rookie blueliner, becoming only the third player in NHL history to do that. He had NHL star written all over him, he was much more a franchise generational player than Gaudreau is.
Then, it fell apart.
