This thread is worse than Ann Coulter having sex with Adolf Hitler while the Vancouver Canucks win the Stanley Cup.

He would have been AGM for the Turris holdout as well, no?

Why are you being intentionally obtuse?
And no, there are no "reports" because the organization is a black vault of secrecy since Treliving took over.
|
Same process? I'm sorry, was Monahan 6th in scoring last year? Did he have offer sheet rights? How many RFA years did he have left? Were his comparables hitting AAVs north of 7M?
Gaudreau's contract situation is extremely unique. Almost unprecedented.

Reports that Calgary is holding between 6.25 and 6.75 on a long term deal is the definition of stingy.

Stop.
Edit: well it might be unprecedented for the agent, which may be the problem

Using your example of $6.75M for 8 years, he might think he deserves as much as $750k more per year. Or $6M over the life of the contract.
So he plays a year at $2M (foregoing $4.75M) because he thinks he's missing $6M (over 8 years).
|
Zero motivation? Unless they want him to actually play for them.
If you think he'd sign for 2M on a 1 year deal . . . He could go to Europe and make way more. Is it ideal? Nope. Neither is getting cheap with your star player.

THe only reason it would be a 1 year deal would be if there was absolutely no agreement on anything else. And if that were the case, they sould simply say $2M is the one year price - take it or leave it.
If it got to that point, there would already be animosity. Offering $2m wouldn't change anything.

That is the problem right there.
He isn't 'your star player'. He is one of the team's young stars. And his camp needs to realize that and stop acting like he is all that and something special.

Stop? Stop what?
I'm sorry you have blind faith in Treliving handling this all perfectly but he's never dealt with a situation like this, almost nobody has. How many 2nd year players end up among the top of the league in scoring while not having a 3rd year of their entry level deal ahead of them? And no offer sheet and arbitration rights to boot?
It's a unique situation, and we're getting ever close to a hold out. You can blindly trust Treliving because he signed Monahan and Gio, but these are completely different situations.

Stop.
Every contract is unique in the sense that the details vary here and there.
But it is a post-ELC contract. With a young, star player. There is usually at least one or two of these every year. There have been several of them this year.

But he is something special. His first 2 years in the league put him in elite company.
If Treliving doesn't think he's a special talent, trade him to the 29 other teams that undoubtedly do (and would pay accordingly).

Haha wow ok. Then why is there such a debate about what he's worth? And why can't we find good comparables?

You need to gear down. He is a very good player. He is a star.
But he isn't 'something special'. He is one of the key young players on the team. That's it. He isn't Bobby Orr or Mario Lemieux.
So slow down.
