Treliving could be waiting for clarity on some other contract or player's injury status before deciding which of the details in Gaudreau's contract to tweak, for all we know.
I feel like the Monahan deal is already done, but the Flames want to get both deals done before they announce anything.
Unless one side is being ridiculous, the Monahan contract should not be difficult at all given the comparables out there.
I think Gaudreau's contract poses more difficulty given how unique a player he is (super skilled but also risk due to size).

How are people judging this situation absent knowing what offers have been exchanged?
If I can't draw extreme and incredulous conclusions from out of thin air and, based on such, publicly declare my dire consternation / overwhelming optimism, why is there an internet?
What is this strange "knowing" business you're talking about?

I like Derek Wills as host in the afternoon so far. He found this article by Ryan Kennedy and then got him on the show, sounds simple yet something the main guys would never have bothered to do
Based on what? All we have from which to gauge the process of these negotiations are a handful of very vague statements made from all camps, all of which affirm that deals will be reached and that they will be long term.
There are literally no indications beyond the fact that the negotiations are complex and ongoing.
Or the exact opposite though, which you are claiming by saying they are "close".
I have not seen one report or heard one convo that can allow anyone to conclude that they are indeed close to getting this done.
I'll gladly be proven wrong on this. But either side saying "we'll get it (or something) done"... Is that side just assuming up til this point.
Now it's crunch time and both sides need to get this put to rest and fast.
FWIW Ryan Kennedy of THN on 960 says he asked agents which GM they liked dealing with the most and almost all of them said Treliving because he is a straight shooter.
He also said he is hearing there is no animosity between the sides in the negotiations between the Flames, Gaudreau, and Monahan, It is just due diligence as to why it is taking so long.
Aww man, what am I going to do with this crate of skittles I just purchased?

can I just say thank you to Street Pharmacist for teaching me a new word. I have been learning English for a long time, but I've never come across Pollyanna.

Is there a history of small players putting up elite scoring numbers in the NHL and then failing? I can't think of any, just wondering how big of a risk that is?
I know I am always worried about a big man turning into Deadmarsh or Primeau or Lindros, but I am not really worried about injuries with a smaller player
