While I tend to believe his reporting about the gap between parties I don't think he has any idea about the prevalent feelings of either side in this negotiation. It sounded to me like he was speculating about the current temperature simply based on the figures and the time it has taken to get to this point.

I would agree with him.
The recent stories would suggest at least one side has gone the media route.
Treliving has never done that in the past and I doubt he would now.
The ESPN article screams that he is doing the agent's bidding - pretty standard tactic when attempting to escalate negotiations.
Very unfortunate, because escalation leads to acrimony, which often results in strained relations.
Really surprised that Gaudreau would go that route

I'm surprised Francis even knows what that word means.
Actually now that I think about it, I'm sure he's looked up every single word that puts a negative tone on something. It's what he does.

Because you learn the game as a kid doesn't make it a kids game, professional athletes deserve their share of the pie because they are the ones providing the product.
If anything the rest of the world is wrong, the Walton family bring home over $10 billion annually yet 99% of their employees make minimum wage and are starving.

A lot of people were surprised.he trademarked"Johnny Hockey" but.his agent thought it would be a good idea. Johnny and his family clearly trust Lewis Gross and feel he is doing what is best for Johnny and in my opinion he is doing what he can to get leverage in a situation where he has none

If it was Gaudreau's camp it's not smart. While really engaged and knowledgable fans can debate figuers like $8M, the general public/casual fan will just say "he wants what???"

I also googled it. The guy who used to word should have done everyone the service of posting the meaning, so I'll go ahead:
ac·ri·mo·ni·ous
ˌakrəˈmōnēəs/
adjective
adjective: acrimonious
(typically of speech or a debate) angry and bitter.
"an acrimonious dispute about wages"
synonyms: bitter, angry, rancorous, caustic, acerbic, scathing, sarcastic, acid, harsh, sharp, cutting;

Personally if I were Gaudreau I'd push for a 2-3 year bridge if I was wanting to maximize earnings. Doesn't appear that is his main concern at least.

*sigh* This isn't some archaic word that isn't in use anymore. At what point did we just stop expecting people to have a working knowledge of the English language?

Interesting developments today - you have to wonder which side provided Francis with the current gap. I doubt it was the Flames but that Conroy - he's a talker!

I'm guessing the Flames are at 6.9 million, and Johnny is at 8.4 million.

If you read the article he spells it out - the Flames are between Mony's and Gio's (which makes it about $6.5) and Gaudreau is "around $8M".

Gross was once accused of agreeing to something way too low (for John LeClair):
http://a.espncdn.com/nhl/columns/parent_rob/893516.html
Of course, he then got him $9M per season starting in 2001!

Oh Francis and his click-bait style reporting. This is a negotiation, it hasn't hit the 6 month hold out point where maybe it could start being considered acrimonious.
Johnny wants to stay in Calgary long term, they want him to stay. Based off his two years even if he plateaued now he is a top elite player in this league. If the Flames want him (and he wants them) for the majority of his best years he is going to want to get paid. This is his agent doing his job. As much as he shouldn't expect UFA money he also deserves top money and doesn't want to be top 2 in the league making 7 Mil while his peers now make 10 because they didn't sign for 8 years.
I also get the Flames side and wanting to get maximum value for their asset so they negotiate. Until the puck drops in October I don't see this being any more than that. Iginla held out early on and stuck around the team for another 10+ years so Francis is just trying to create a story out of a normal business transaction.
