It's a comment that I disagree with since the most recent example is from like two weeks ago and I think everyone's expectations, Enoch's included, have risen as we dove into what the comparables mean for RFA valuation. But his post clearly implied RFA valuation...

The craziest thing I think I've learned today is that Malkin's RFA years were effectively valued at $10.8M in today's cap dollars. That's insane! Let's not go using this as a comparable though.

Expectations of cap growth were also much higher back then so it's somewhat more reasonable. Still crazy, but not as crazy as $10.8M today in a stagnating cap environment.

I'm not sure how negotiations are going but if they are $1.5M apart like Eric Francis states (I think he's pretty accurate), it looks like they are pretty far apart. But that doesn't mean the team and the player will have a strained relationship. Drew Doughty and the Kings had a difficult negotiation too and he didn't sign until almost October and it appears both camps are on the same page.

I find it funny how some posters think solving this stalemate is as simple as finding the number in the middle. If that is the case, Treliving should just offer $1M and then "compromise" in the middle and get Johnny signed at $4.5M on an 8 year deal.
