funny how you can miss, (or choose to ignore) such important details...

I'm not ignoring anything. I'm just surprised at how much his RFA years were worth. Some people here think Johnny's are worth less than 5 lol. Malkin's a great player, but he's not 2x better than the guy who just finished 6th in scoring, art ross or not.

No, the Blackhawks won the cup.
|
Well if the Flames were in the business of paying for unconverted scoring opportunities than Paul Byron should have fetched a 12 year $15MM AAV contract.

Except that the posters who wanted Iginla out for example were right, and the Flames lost tremendous value by not trading him sooner.
But anyway..

Its a results business.
Its pretty obvious when other teams had last change, he was able to be contained in a big way. He may or may not get that figured out, but the bottom line is he had very average results in half the games. Undeniable.
He is no where near proven enough or won enough at the NHL level to be compensated at a level that would place him among the elite.
As Francis mentions in the article there is NO way a Burke/Treliving run team is going to annihilate their cap structure for a 5'8" dynamo that carries concerns in his overall game.
7 million for 7 years is fair value and if he doesnt think so, or is allowing his agent to play chicken over it, he can go ahead and sit out and never ever make up the money lost.
This thing will get done and hopefully its under 7 for 8 years even though its unlikely.

I love Johnny, but this is pretty much all he has on his NHL resume: 2nd in Calder voting, top-ten scoring finish - and you seem to think that his "comparables" are players who at his age had won multiple trophies.

I was definitely one of the ones that wanted Iginla gone. It was pretty clear ownership was unwilling to accept the reality and address the problems with the team as long as he was here.
I regret nothing!

You really think Gaudreau's shooting percentage splits will sustain?
Seems like many are happy to side with Treliving no matter how ridiculous the situation becomes.
If he's such a one dimensional player who's awful on the road maybe we should just trade him. Maybe we can get a real dynamic power forward like Taylor Hall.

Of course I'll side with Trelving. His side will have as low of a contract and cap hit as possible. Duh.
I hope Gaudreau barely gets paid and puts up an insane amount of points.

You need to accept that no one else besides you thinks that the situation has become ridiculous.
You're alone, off your meds, in a field, with no shoes on.
Come home Lewis. Come home.

What are you talking about? Who said Malkin is a comparable?
But your point about resumes is spot on. If only he had a resume like Vlad Tarasenko when he signed his 8 year 7.5M deal. . . . Oh wait, he does. Only it's even better.

Nobody is siding with Treliving, we're just opposed to your frankly unreasonable stance. You can call it not being part of the "clique", or CP "drinking the Kool-Aid", but at the end of the day if everybody disagrees with you: You're either a CP savant, nay, prophet - only come 100 years too soon to be understood - or you're wrong.

I did. Not a very good comparable, but for the sake of argument, he's one of the only players in the last few years to get a contract at age 22 eating up 5 RFA years.

Saying that posters are putting these words into your mouth insinuates that posters are saying this. Which they really aren't! No serious, rational poster has proposed trading Gaudreau for Hall. And he really ain't one-dimensional! Who is saying these things?
That wasn't rhetorical.
