I agree. My point is time isn't the issue right now, as you said, these dates are now being used as tactics. Fair enough, there is two ways to use them as tactics, the threat of actually missing games for example, and actually missing games.
I guess you are correct, we are currently only in a situation where the "threat" of missing games is the tactic being employed.

As someone who does negotiations in my job, I see it as "I/we don't want to miss any games" as the point we are at right now. They are still very much playing nice with each other.

Johnny and his agents are just being idiots by putting the negations on hold during the World Cup, it can still get done Johnny, your agent can tell you everything that is happening, we now have cell phones, instant text messages, email, facetime(I think Johnny and his agent can afford an i Phone), if Johnny's agent is telling him not to negotiate during the World Cup, than he is an idiot and Johnny should fire him, the Flames are no Stanley Contenders(so they can wait it out).
I think it is the agents idea to put the negotiations on hold and not Johnny's, they should have not put them on hold, just negotiate and tell Johnny everything, that is happening, if the agents ####s up here, he may be done.

If Gaudreau's camp wants to push it into the season and sit out - so be it. How much did holding out affect Iginla's career?
And as far as Gaudreau getting off to a slow start and it hurting the team's season as a result, the fact that he's in the WC will definitely help in that regard. It's pretty much its own training camp.
I want to see a reasonable contract. If it takes him sitting out for a while, well that's unfortunate. But it isn't the end of the world by any stretch.
Maybe it ends up resulting in lots of early ice-time for Bennett and Tkachuk. One never knows how things play out.

If the Flames won't budge from 8 years and $5.5M/y then there's no wonder it's not done.

But it only takes a moment to move off a line and then things get done quickly.

Which is why a lot of litigation gets settled on Courthouse steps as the parties move in. When push comes to shove, someone - and frequently both parties - make a move to come together.

Regardless of what his camp is telling him, I can't imagine Gaudreau agreeing to miss a single day of hockey.

There is no evidence at this point that the "threat" of missing games is a tactic that has yet been employed. The hard deadline has always been the beginning of the season, and there is still a good amount of time between the end of the WCH and the first game to get a deal done. I don't think missing games becomes a tactic until a day or two before the season begins.

To me, Bingo really hit the nail on the head in his article, saying how Johnny's agent has everything riding on this deal so he needs to go for broke to attract future superstar clients.
Monahan's agent is used to negotiating on behalf of superstars and knows how to talk to GMs and make a deal. Johnny's agent is in uncharted territory and this deal will likely make or break his firm. Brad knows this and probably doesn't have time for petty tactics that the agent is probably trying. Bingo's article calls the move to put negotiations on hold during the WC as bizarre, and I have to agree with Bingo there.
IMO, this whole delay is on the agent and not on the Flames or Johnny.

So can we put an end to the Golly Gee Babe of the Woods routine we think Gaudreau has? Guy is playing the game now.
