Poor Gaudreau. Posts a picture on his Instagram of him catching a fish and for some reason several guys think a different reincarnation of the same joke is funny. "Catch a pen for your contract Johnny", "catch a contract Johnny".
Poor famous people. I don't think I could do it.

Of course, everyone already knows the shooting percentage was a huge part of why Johnny had such significant splits, but alas.

Probably by taking a contract inline with what all the other players around him got paid.

In line meaning slightly above? Wouldn't the same hold true for Gaudreau and Tarasenko then? Would his agent accepting a 7.75M 8 year deal answer those questions?

Sign me up in a second. If making millions, so you don't have to work past the age of 35 requires a little ribbing and unwanted photo's on the internet, its a very fair trade.

Tarasenko had 3 league years under his belt, so the Blues had to buy 4 UFA years. Gaudreau only has 2 so we'd only be buying 3 UFA years with a 8 year deal. So "in line" means lower than 8x$7.5M, not higher.

This morning on the Fan, Warrener said "I don't care" when asked whether he's concerned about the contract status.
He said the kid can sit out and not get paid at all and he wouldn't care.
He trusts him to do the right thing though.

I care, players sitting out doesn't look good for either side. I'm sure all of us fans don't want Johnny's contract to handcuff this team in the future and I'm sure Brad is trying his best to do just that, which is fine with me.
Problem is, none of us know what either side is looking for. Is Johnny asking way to much? or is Brad offering too little? I think It's a poker game right now with both sides holding their cards till the river card shown, which is similar to what happened with Gio.

It feels weird saying it, but I'm in the don't really care camp. We've got control of him for 5 more years. That's an eon in my books. Fighting for those extra 3 aren't that high on my list. So at the end of the day, or at least at the end of this current phase, I'm happy with anything but a ridiculous overpayment.

Can you imagine the harassment he'd get from Philly fans? Those people are ruthless.

Now that it is September it probably is just starting to worry me. If I had to measure it on a scale of 1 to 10, probably a 3 right now. If he starts missing preseason games in Oct I will start to panic more.

print this and put it somewhere where you can read it.
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifespan? So if you cannot do such a small thing, why do you worry about the rest?…
thus sayeth the lord - especially about hockey. Jesus was just like, chill out bros.

I would say, the threat of missing games has to be very very real now. Let's not kid ourselves, he doesn't have a contract now because "these things take time" (which they do), we are now at the point that he doesn't have a contract because they can't agree, and now the upcoming "dates" of importance (World Cup, training camp, pre season games, regular season games) are now being used as leverage points, potentially by both sides.
Unfortunate that it's come to this point, but wouldn't be shocked to see him miss some regular season games given it's come this far. Have a feeling Gaudreau's camp has to be willing to push it that far to try to get what they want if they are willing to let it go this long with out a contract.

The start of the season is a long way off. There's plenty of time left to get a deal done. These delays are just tactical maneuvering.

Exactly. Now that season is upon us, they will start negotiating more frequently. Treliving and Gross probably exchanged a phone call occasionally over that last few months. I am willing to bet that those conversations will increase in frequency and length as September moves along. Both sides want this done. Just standard negotiating. I think the public worry a bit because none of it is public so they can't see progress.
Sure Gaudreau's agent dropped the "we won't negotiate during world cup", but that was a couple weeks ago. A lot can get done in that time.

I just don't want some sour taste left in my mouth down the line if Johnny decides to sit out because he wants more money.
The fact is, I would start feeling differently about him if he sat out 20 games over this.

If you have to build a house by October 1st and you haven't started you're screwed. If you have to get a contract signed by October 1st you only need 5 minutes. It's what happens in those 5 minutes, they are key.
If the Flames won't budge from 8 years and $5.5M/y then there's no wonder it's not done.
If Gaudreau's agent won't budge from 8 years and $.8.5M then there's no wonder it's not done.
But it only takes a moment to move off a line and then things get done quickly.
