People are going to have start getting used to these new contracts and understanding that these young players will be getting overpaid in the front halts of their deals, with the hope that they will be value contracts come the back half. That's the way the NHL is going. So you can't look at a player on year 1 or 2 of a long term deal if it's their second contract and go they have to be equaling their salary spot for performance.
Everyone knows there's one notorious poster around here who simply doesn't seem to be able to wrap their head around this and all sorts of other contract differences based on status when signing, age etc.... and it's just going to get worse.
You can no longer go, 5th highest paid needs to equal 5th best player anymore, at least not with long term second contracts for young players. The NHL is very much changing to a pay for potential model.
