Clipped to respond only to this. Watched all of team NA games on ESPN. Gaudreau would have been 4th in mentions, but very far behind McDavid, Eichel and Matthews.

Well...Bob Mckenzie on Insider Trading just said The Flames and Johnny's camp aren't even talking and there is a stalemate. He then referenced Francis's article.

Man that quote "if it was up to us, we would sign the same deal" is starting to piss me off now.

I am excited to see the Flames take it to the next level. Lots of skill and talent plus everyone's worked hard over the summer. Just waiting until this group gels and gets serious about going all the way! The key for the Flames will be to stay relatively injury free and get off to a good start!
The negotiations between BT/JG have not really bothered me, it's not something I can control. I think when people start debating the same topic too much you get into arguments and a lot assumptions. I agree once the contract status is out of the way things should ease up considerably.

[QUOTE=Manhattanboy;5922191]Is your source credible? Yes
A reliable insider who has provided accurate information in the past? No
Your own suggestion as to the possibility of your source being full of crap casts some doubt. Absolutely, and I'm willing to admit it.

I used to think/hope that this was another example of the Flames brass trolling us, as in Gaudreau had signed a long time ago but they just held off from announcing it. With team NA being out of the WCH for some time now and no news, I don't believe Johnny will be signed before the regular season starts (as in a few games missed).

That's in line with what I have suspected. The point here being that the issuing country for Gaudreau's passport and his ability to play in a large US market do not in any way suggest he will capitalise on lucrative endorsement deals. Were that the case, then I would think that Patrick Kane would regularly be among the top endorsement earning players every year. He plays in one of the largest cities in the US with one of the (currently) best established fan bases, and yet he is not.

I would much prefer that the Flames trade with another team, since I think they could extract a higher return from someone other than the Flyers. It is one thing to imagine that Gaudreau could force a trade; it is quite another to think that he can without any form of a NTC could dictate the destination.

He also mentioned that the Flames have control and know they have control due to Gaudreau's offer sheet ineligibility. And finally said that there's still plenty of time and it's nothing to worry about because he's got the WC training camp under his belt and isn't losing out as much on training camp (although IMO it would be nice if he was learning the new system right now).
No need to quote half of what he said causing even more ridiculous panic around here.

Wouldn't most other teams be scared he would pull the same crap with them? Assuming that's what's going on of course (I'm not).

Dunno who pylon's "credible source" is, but mine says the opposite. Framework of the deal is done, just hammering out relatively minor details. Dunno if it's long term or bridge, but word is he will sign at some point. Didn't really feel comfortable posting this, but the frothing at the mouth ITT is reaching all new frothyness. Mods can PM for source.
I say we get back to gifs. Or turn this thread into the new You Love You Lose - at least then it will be locked.

Paraphrasing McKenzie:
The Flames would love to get Gaudreau similar to Monahan (6.4) or up around Giordano (6.75). Gaudreau's ask is probably in excess of 8.0.

The post-mortem on this whole thing is going to be hilarious. And regardless of the outcome, we'll learn what everyone should know anyhow: half the people on the internet are full of ####, and the other half were just guessing anyhow.

Not necessarily true. It could be made known that he would refuse to sign a contract if he was traded anywhere else. Now I'm not saying this is the case, but if it were, think of the position the Flames would be in. He's not signing here, but he's only willing to sign there if we trade him. Well, I guess that's what your left with, and you somehow have to get something back when you now have no leverage. It would be entirely dependent on how desperate Philly really wanted him. If in was nothing. I guess he's gonna sit. It would be a nightmare scenario though.
FWIW, I heard what I heard about 4-5 weeks ago, and called it out as BS at the time. I said he'll be signed before the World Cup. The fact that training camp has started now makes me believe it might have legs. It 100% came from someone in a position to be in the right circles to get it.
To be clear, what I heard exactly, was he wanted to sign no farther than UFA eligibility, and the Flames had offered him maximum term, and money wasn't necessarily the object, and Johnny's side won't move.
