If Johnny's agent wants, I have no trouble seeing him sit for a while.
As long as it takes.

If this turns into a hold out situation, I will be sad.
I'm starting to wonder if there really is a small chance at a trade. I had a nightmare that he was playing for the Bruins.

Oh boy...
1. This is probably already a "hold out situation." It's training camp and he doesn't have a deal yet.
2. Both sides have said they want Gaudreau in Calgary longterm. Unless things go south, I see no reason why a trade would happen. There has been zero evidence that a trade is even being considered at this point.
3. I once had a nightmare that I fell from a really tall tree. Fortunately, our unconscious minds don't dictate reality. The facts that were true yesterday are still true today, regardless of what happened in your dream.

This is a really interesting negotiation - will really cement my opinion of Treliving one way or the other. I feel as though the Flames have to give in on price owing to the quality of player, but who knows.

If $6.5M is Treliving's "final offer" then he absolutely has to be willing to give a little.
Likewise, if $8M is Johnny's "final offer" he also need to be willing to come down some.
However, if both of these numbers are starting points and they're willing to meet anywhere in the $7-7.5M range, I'll be okay with that.

If the Flames won't move above 7, this may not get done.
I think 7.5 x 8 is fair for both sides.

If this can get done for around $7.5 million, just get it done already....he is pretty clearly worth that.

Gaudreau for Gostisbehere & Simmonds
28 year old RW that plays a hard game, 30 goal scorer under contract for 3 years at 3.9 & a RFA dman to round out the top 4
Philly will overpay for a home town boy who is a top 10 scoring winger
I have a feeling we lose him now or in 6 years for less at the deadline in his UFA season for a lot less - management won't be able to trade him in year 3 or 4 when they really should in order to maximize his value. You can get away with that in Columbus or Boston but not a Canadian hockey market.

You don't trade a star player for support players. You only make a deal if it's a no-brainer.

I wouldn't be shocked if they had agreed on term and AAV and the issue is the pay structure (ie. signing bonuses)

Johnny loses roughly 82k per game on a 6.75 mil deal and 88k per game on a 7.2 mil sea that should be on the table. If the real differenCe between the camps is 500k per season it only takes 40 games for him never to be able to catch up. In 10 games he will lose 1/4 of the lifetime value.
So the flamI s definitely have a pressure point here.

What concerns me is that the hardball played by the Flames to date might have caused irreparable harm such that JG may no longer be interested in a long term deal. If that proves to be true unless they have had ownership's support throughout this negotiation could be the end of BT and Burke in Calgary. I have spoken with a number of season ticket holders who like myself want this kid locked down for the long term.

There have been minimal claims that this has been a contentious negotiation. Francis said as much (but also said the opposite).
In my opinion the Flames should try and get this done for the weekend as Monahan is expected to start playing games in the second half of the preseason and the Flames should want Johnny for those games as well.
I really hope when the puck drops for real #13 is there otherwise the Flames are risking a poor start not having their superstar in the lineup

I just can't believe that a guy as smart as Brad is completely hung up on the 'Gio Cap'...

Then why believe it? who has confirmed this to be the case?
I think its bogus and pure speculation.

Where is your goddam proof? He's not hung up on the Gio Cap. He's hung up on not overpaying for an RFA. Shocking, I know.
Mr Charming himself, Conroy, was on the radio this morning. He said the deal will get done and there is no doubt in his mind.

I agree with what you're saying, and I also wouldn't trade Johnny for Gostisbehere and Simmonds, but I wouldn't class Gostisbehere as a "support player" either.

I hope it does get done. But Tre is a smart GM and you can bet he is exploring all options including a trade as unbelievable as that may seem... I think Gaudreau is not the type of player to pull a Trouba by making it known he wants out but at the same time , his family wants him home and if Johnny starts to feel unappreciated for his talents ..... Tre needs to come up to 7.5 at most and soon before this whole thing goes south in a hurry

I really doubt Treliving is even looking at a trade at this point. At least no more than any other player under regular operation of his duties.
