Chimed in only now and then during his junior year in college when there was an equally large meltdown over worries about him signing at the end of that season, and usually provided some sort of 'reassurance' to fans that things would be fine.

That would be nice right about now. Not cause I'm worried. But because people are losing their minds over an instagram post and stuff.. you know even though he's an RFA that can't play anywhere else but Calgary this season.

I'd actually be kinda embarrassed to be a Flames fan if our management hired people to low key go out onto social media sites and pump tires, NOT even of the organization, but of specific members of management. That's just sad on so many levels.

I know the Flames have a social media team but they've never pulled crap like that from what I saw. At least Darryl could take the heat when he was highly criticized later in his tenure as GM. Oilers (allegedly) trying to filter all the media people close to the team is quite hilariously awful.

I'm a Flames fan and a Gaudreau fan, this just happens to be a pretty contentious issue at the time. Explains why so many people are in this thread. But as a fan, it's tough to watch fellow fans with a grudge against Gaudreau who look to knock him down a peg at every opportunity. I know they are the vocal minority, but it's surprising that I'm one of the few to take exception with it.

I think it helps for people to appreciate your point of view if they know more about you as a fan. Did you become a fan because of Johnny or were you a flames fan before? I'm asking these questions out of sincere curiosity to appreciate where you are coming from.

The guy is worshipped on here for both the person and player he is and has been since long before he became a household name. You would struggle to find a player that unites the forum more than Johnny.

The only thing people are looking to knock down is your often absurd and over the top remarks. You should be cringing at suggesting anyone on here has a grudge against JG. I hope you're not in anyway aligned with his camp as your values seem miles apart from the kid we've grown so fond of over the last 5 years.

I suppose the timing of his/her joining the forum could be suspect, but everyone had to join sometime. It's not unreasonable to think Gaudreauvertime has been reading the forum for a while and finally decided to join when he/she felt they had something to contribute.

Gaudreauvertime has a penchant for hyperbole and victimization. However, it's ludicrous for us to suggest he/she is someone working in the agents office simply trying to "stir the pot".

It seems much more likely that Gaudreauvertime is simply a younger person that really like Johnny Gaudreau. His/her posts have a juvenile quality to them that lacks nuance. I don't say this to shame Gaudreauvertime or speak disparagingly; all of us were young once. I've written some horrendous posts on forums myself throughout the years.

Writing a post that you believe to be clearly articulated and well thought out, only to have others react completely contrary to what you thought you said, is all part of learning to be a better writer. Gaudreauvertime will get there eventually, assuming they stick around long enough to do so.

What's ridiculous is Gaudreauvertime is trying to create this narrative that the fanbase on this forum are somehow anti-Johnny when in fact everyone on this site that is a flames fan wants Gaudreau signed for 7-8 years.

We all want the Flames to win the cup and hopefully a couple of cups. The last era got so close on a underdog run and never got close again. This will be the 4th full season since the rebuild began. Johnny has emerged as the next face of the franchise but is joined by Monahan, Bennett, Tkachuk, Brodie, Hamilton as the key pieces of the future. Management is going to need to keep those pieces together and add others to the mix (currently Gio, Backlund, Frolik, Brouwer, Elliott) in order to win.

Johnny has an interesting contract situation where he still has 5 years before he is a UFA, and can't be given an offer sheet. The flames owners also are known to be hardliners when CBA negotiations occur. It is reasonable to believe that due to those factors we will not be seeing an 8 year $64M contract even though many like me would be completely happy paying Johnny that money.

I like Gaudreauvertime people on this forum are using logic to deduce what a fair contract for Johnny would be. What is funny most people agree with where he ended up voting in the process. $7-7.5M for 8 years
